Struggling TopTV loses three more channels

Showtime will be a major loss for them I think. Hope they get something similar to keep their clients happy.
 
How many more channels are they going to lose? Only Discovery & Fox is keeping me from cancelling.

They need more than local sport, they need international sport, and how can they add any when Multichoice has the exclusive rights to everything that people care about? And I wouldn't want that to change. As things stand, SA enjoys the best sports coverage on earth, and we pay comparatively little for it. I do not want to have to get a TopTV subscription in addition to my DSTV one, just so I get coverage of all the sport.

And no, they won't be sharing any licenses. The exclusivity is what makes the contracts so valuable, and thus they are offered for sale that way.
 
Ooooohh .... business rescue, a la 1Time? Does that mean that someone can pull the plug at any time without notice.

Doesn't inspire confidence for new subscribers.
 
I'm feeling kinda sorry for them. Competition is really needed and they have and are struggling despite some good efforts on their side.

That said, I haven't felt sorry enough yet to cancel my DSTV subscription.

My thoughts exactly. Never saw anything of interest (to me) airing on any of them.

Good luck Top-Tv, I'll stick with you till the end. There's something to be said for siding with the underdog.
 
Reminds me of AstraSAT back in the day with their analogue satellite feed.

you should get one:), its a big red box filled with useless tv content and a glass widow to break in case something like this happens. They mounted theirs with the glass facing the wall so that's why subscribers have to wait until next year to get more channels....

satellite services are running out of time, the fact that iTunes has managed to get some licensing going for digital content opens the doors into deep dark africa for services such as Netflix and Hulu to get their services licensed(Asuming the ANC doesn't implement a tax on it)

If you think that then you've never been overseas. Full sports coverage of everything relevant to you for the equivalent of £47, $77 etc. is something foreigners can only dream of.

TopTV has [highlight]recently[/highlight] been informed by Turner Broadcasting that the three channels it supplies to the pay-TV operator will be discontinued as from midnight on 31 December 2012.

What is the definition of "recently" here? December is nearly at an end and we are only hearing now that three channels are biting the dust whereas TopTV must have known about this months ago.

I'm all for supporting the opposition to incumbent monopolies but TopTV has only gone downhill in its non-sport content that is old and repeated ad infinitum. I think my R239 per month would be better spent on data.
