Hi there

So after trying to connect for the last hour I finally got the approval of Cell C and im staring at the greenlight of my so called 3G Speedstick... had it for 4 weeks now and have never seen this so called blue light... and then above that when my browser is closed and no updates running it goes 200kbs a sec... im sure nothing is downloading and im sure no one is on the network...

So...

I tried everything suggested in the other thread to get it to go to 3G but nothing helps... and every single time I finally get connection on 2G it starts downloading stuff like a madman... EVEN when I made 100% sure that im not downloading updates etc...

I want an answer Trevor...

Smells like a virus in my honest opinion.

There was a substantial wave of undetectable bugs doing their rounds for a few days in this last 2 weeks; before all the Anti-Virus folks could roll-out updates against them.

Wouldn't surprise me if you were one of the unfortunates...

Get a Linux live CD and see if the same condition persists.

If it does, then you're one of the unfortunates not lucky enough to have a good enough signal.

What is your signal strength?

Look under Settings - Diagnostics - Network Status - RSSI for your signal strength in dBm

WHen (on windows) your usage goes flat out, is it uploads or downloads?

Uploads most definitely means a virus/trojan/worm of some sort, and downloads means a torrent or download/windowsupdates/etc might still be buggering around.

I had a similar problem, maybe consider getting an antenna although I just returned it.

If Rendier is still residing at his previous address then he should be getting close to full signal as he is very close to the tower.

Get netlimiter. Will help identify the area where the traffic is being generated.

Edge works in very high speed bursts for a very short period of time, so in essence if there is any activity on your network it will burst to say 300kb/s and then drop back to 0. Even if it is say just grabbing a tiny file, your average speed though should still be very very low and the cell c software is not the best way to measure your data usage and or speed
