Student 'dragged by car in racist attack' (again)

Rednecks... always crying for their rights not giving a @#$% about others

It was bound to happen. Did the powers that be think it would be cumbaya after the apology.

The people at the university seem to have a problem controlling themselves.

Just seven months after new rector Jonathan Jansen apologised for an offensive racist video, two more University of the Free State students are embroiled in a racist attack on a black pupil.

Gordon Idris and Werner Scholtz face charges of attempted murder, crimen injuria and grievous bodily harm for allegedly dragging teenager Pinky Mokemane next to their moving car as they screamed racist insults at her.

Now the two students could face expulsion for their actions and an Equality Court case for impugning her dignity. The SA Human Rights Commission has stepped in to monitor developments and will lodge the Equality Court case at a later stage.
Her sister's husband took her to the Bainsvlei police station to report the incident.

Police spokeswoman Lieutenant Colonel Annelie Wrensch confirmed the case and the court appearance.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission in Bloemfontein has written to the National Director of Public Prosecutions, Menzi Simelane, accusing NPA Bloemfontein head Andre du Toit of being biased towards the Reitz four in the criminal case against them. Simelane was given until this week to respond to the commission's grievances.
Idris and Scholtz appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court this week and were released on R1 000 bail each.

Jansen, the university's first black vice-chancellor, last year came under fire for his lenient approach to Johnny Roberts, Danie Grobler, Schalk van der Merwe and RC Malherbe, who allegedly urinated in food fed to university cleaners in 2007.

He forgave them, apologised for their behaviour and invited them back to the institution.

Professor Teuns Verschoor, UFS's acting vice-chancellor, this week said the university regarded any racially driven incident in a very serious light and distanced itself from students guilty of such behaviour.

"The management of UFS has taken note of the atrocious malpractice that two of its students have allegedly committed this past weekend.

"We show no mercy towards students or staff members who, in spite of comprehensive interventions to ban any racial prejudices and discrimination from all environments of the UFS, still continue to be guilty of racially driven behaviour.

"Should the magistrate's court find them guilty of the alleged crime, disciplinary steps will immediately be taken against the students. This could lead to their being expelled from UFS," he said.

Mokemane, a matric pupil at Brebner High School, was at a university residence's gates, but did not have an access disc for the complex's safety gate and waited outside for her sister to open it for her.

While she was waiting, Idris and Scholtz drove out of the complex in a red VW Golf. They too did not have access discs and apparently shouted and blew the hooter at Mokemane.

"I could see they were drunk, so I tried to ignore them, and then I moved away from the gate," she said. When somebody eventually opened the gate, she walked inside and was allegedly grabbed by somebody sitting in the passenger side of the car before it pulled away.

The two men apparently drove for a short distance while she was held by the arm. "When they let go of me they drove away and one of them screamed the k-word."

She had bruise marks and injuries on her arm and leg.

I just don't care about this **** anymore, black people killing farmers because they are racist and white people dragging black people behind their car/bakkie because the are racist.

oh noes...

oh.. so two drunk kids drag another kid around shouting insults and thats major domojo... but when three adults walk into somebody's house, rapes the mother and the daughter, and then shoots the father after he watched, that's okay. That's not racism. That's just "lost" people.

You know what, im gonna find this journalist and show him what sensation is.

Don't be thick man.....

It was a racist incident it's just a coincidence that it was students at the UFS. This should have no bearing on the UFS, let the people involved be thrown to the lions but don't blame the UFS

Yup. I'm quite fond of the South African Neutral Facebook group. It stands for something I believe in--a bunch of South Africans who tend to be forgotten--those of us who just want to get on with our lives and who don't support the extremist factions and who don't want to be grouped as "black" or "white" and just want to be thought of and remembered as fellow South Africans.

It's a philosophy I appreciate. :)

I don't see how I was being thick. Just relating the situation directly to the UFS.

I'm saying they can't control themselves. If a taxi driver does something really stupid and infuriating I don't get out the car and start shooting even though I want to sometimes.

But do you blame that taxi driver's association?

See my point?

It's like a Black guy killing someone then you blame his race..... These 2 guys are in serious shyt, where they work, go to varsity or who they shag has nothing to do with what they did. Damn, you should become a reporter so you can create some more sensationalism out of someones pain (The girl in this story) Stick to the matter at hand which was the racist attack. Now all of a sudden an appology given by the people from a seperate case is also drawn into it.....

I call that being thick ;)

What kind of sick mother f cukers do that to a human?
Times like this when we should have the death penalty
These animals are no better than the animals that break into homes and rape and kill.

Am I missing something here? How short a distance? 1m? 2m? 500m? Was she still on her feet when they let go of her?

Don't get me wrong, this is absolutely disgusting behaviour and these guys deserve to be punished but obviously the motive here was not murder. People are making out like she was tied up with rope by two men in white cloaks with pointy hats and then dragged behind their bakkie for a few miles. One thing's for sure - this white on black incident will draw some international attention (after all, this is the most vile, inhumane thing we've read about all year).
