Students question #RhodesMustFall

Thanks for the insights on the DRC.
They have elections later this year, and there is a huge dilemma. The international community likes President Joseph Kabila as he has kept the country relatively stable. The rate to the dollar of the local currency has been between 880 and 930 for the last 5 years....which is quite amazing.

But, he has already had 2 terms and last year, when he was attempting to change the law for a third term violence erupted and the internet got shutdown for 3 weeks to prevent coordination/news getting out. This was hardly reported in the international news, so the shutdown worked successfully.

He is expected to manipulate the law again this year to get that third term. There will be problems for sure. Kabila is from the East, a Swahili speaker who grew up outside DRC so in lingala speaking Kinshasa (the most populous city by far) and so is seen as a bit of a foreign invader by a large % of the Kin population.
