So... someone checks out your DNA and then you get monitored for the rest of your life. I think not. Fsck that I have a right to privacy as does everyone else.

Yeah no, that's not what I meant. Just let people be aware of the potential and make sure the kids are kept safe, for their own and society's good

Dangerous president you start there.

What's next, profiling people that are more likely to steal or people that are more aggressive? What about people that are more likely to question authority?

And who will police it?

I know what you want but knowing humanity and leaders love of controls and abuse of power, its maybe better not to start going down that path.

You are not taking into account the potential negative repercussions here. If parents knew that their kid could be a psycho from an early age. And let that slip to the child. It could drive them to become psycho's in their early teens because teenagers like to do whatever will frighten their parents. In many ways, this preventative measure would cause more harm than good.

Even if the parents didn't let it slip, they might now over or under parent their children, due to the knowledge. Thus having potentially bad effects again.
I don't see a nett positive outcome from this suggestion in any way.

The breathalyzer analogy is a far different situation though. It is not a preventative measure designed to keep track of any potential offenders. It is simply a diagnosis tool, to determine if you are drunk at that time, if the cop has due cause to believe that you are.

Valid points from both of you. The question is then, if it was possible to accurately detect potential serial killers and vicious dictators at an early age, should it just be ignored or how should it be approached?

Well depends if you want to be arrested for drunk and driving just because you are on your way to a party that serves alcohol.

Because all the boxes are ticked does not make it a fact so trying to prevent it could do more harm than good.

Only if they test people leaving and not entering. ;) You dont get it, let me try it another way.

Not everybody that has the trademarks will become offenders, so you can not go judge an entire group just because they all fall victim to certain conditions that can lead to it, besides there are people that don't have the trademarks and still become offenders so your not really doing anything productive.

The money spend on tests and what not could be better applied to other sciences like what makes people with this pre-condition turn out the way they do.

Yes but something that does not need you to single out a certain group as I allready mentioned there is some that dont have this chemical trademarks and still turn out psycho.

Example: if we find that violence on TV can cause this, get means of preventing all children form accessing it not just those that has a certain pattern on a brain scan.

PS: Above is an example I am sure there are other things like even diets that could cause problems, in short we just dont know enough.

Shotgun instead of targeted sniping then. So target everyone pre-emptively instead of those more at risk? Sure it's more democratic but isn't it just as objectionable and intrusive?
 
Estimates are that around 10% of people are sociopaths. That doesn't mean they will kill anyone as you can be a sociopath and still know what's the best way to get what you want through society. In fact being a sociopath is all about caring only about what you want and lacking the ability to have empathy for the needs or wants of others. Sociopaths can typically be found in politics and big business and are often highly sucessful people due to their entire focus being on manipulation without the inconvenience of the guilt of their actions.

As I pointed out earlier with humanity the way it is, yes. Its a hell of a lot better as it leaves less chance for abuse.
