Hi guys,

Does anyone here know anything about study loans?

I want to do a BAA (Basic Ambulance Assistant) course, Ambutek are asking for about R6000 - R7000 for the course ±

So I'm probably looking at trying to get a loan from FNB (because I bank with FNB) for that amount.

I've never taken a study loan, I have taken loans before, but I'm curious if anyone knows anything about study loans.

My ultimate goal is to one day volunteer for say, Netcare 911 and hopefully do the other levels (ILS, ALS etc)

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

gdiza from what I can remember all the banks require is that the learning institution be on their list of recognised institutions. Shouldn't be an issue. They also used to be a bit more "forgiving" i.e. lower rates, to older people. I guess they figure there is less chance of you dropping out. ;)

Good luck!

from what i remember the course also needs to be longer than 6 months,
I tried to take out a loan a few months ago for some computer training course, because the actual classes were less than 6 months they refused..

Ok, so...

FNB want proof of registration before they'll consider a study loan.

Ambutek want 50% deposit when you register which is R3250 which I don't have.

I'm so screwed... I can't do either without either.

Friday the course co-ordinator is in the office for Ambutek, going to see if I can't ask her to WANGLE something.

Just stay away from Personal loans. Many people go this route. Been there, done that and its the worst financial mistake I have ever made. DO NOT GET A PERSONAL LOAN!

To quote Warren Buffett (quoting somebody else, on debt):

"The smart don't do it and the dumb have no business doing it."

Yeah if you can avoid it, please do! I got into endless fights over my student loan, they actually made me feel really guilty about studying! I'm so happy I don't have that debt anymore, feels like a rock was lifted off my back.

lol, just SAVE dude.skim on ordering stuff online for a month or two and save the money, sure you'll atleast have the deposit by then.

Also is that the cheapest offer?any recommendations for JHB?am sooooo effing tired of waiting for JHB EMS to send me forms!!!!!

I've taken 2 personal loans before, the 1st I paid almost double back, the 2nd, I paid like, R1000 more.

I want a study loan because not only WHAT I'M DOING (STUDYING) but it's also cheaper with regards to 'rates' etc.

That's because my friend, you don't hound people the way I do...

Also, the problem with saving, as nice as the idea is, registeration closes in December, so it's not like I have alot of time to play with.

lol, dude, settle in at the vws and kabtech before you go ahead and do more volunteering as a BAA.

Also, am sure if you stop ordering stuff online for a few months you will atleast be able to save for the deposit :)

otherwise i'll loan you the money, at 20% interest :p hehe
