Hi All.

I need some studying advice.
Some background info of myself:
My last grade passed is grade 8 many years back. I have been for bible studies for 5 years and thereafter, I have been working for the last 4 years as a restaurant manager. I know the basics of everyday living and know how to conduct business. Over the years I have done a few computer and accounting courses but nothing of significance. I am not able to get a good job as a result.

I cannot do my matric directly as I do not have the required knowledge to do so.

Do I go for classes at a community college or private tuition from grade 8 to 12 to complete my matric(If so,please advise where to attend in the Johannesburg/Polokwane area)?
Do I go to a college and do some bridging courses in order to do a diploma?
Do I do online schooling from grade 8(I have tried online school from grade 10 and doesn't work for me)?

I need help. Please guys. Any info at all will be appreciated.

Regards

If i'm right, you should qualify for matricualtion exemption because of your age. Apply to a college and ask them.

Why? Why do you need matric all of a sudden.

At your age (and I'm assuming you're middle-aged) matric has very little value.

Perhaps you should go see someone regarding the lack of confidence you portray (It's understandable). Looking at your grammar and manners in the OP I honestly cannot believe that you don't posses 'the required knowledge' to pass Nated matric.

I'll PM you a contact number for someone that will be able to help you should you decide to go that route. You won't regret it. ;)

You're 24, and I think at this age getting your matric and then studying further will be beneficial to you as your matric lays the ground work for a lot of things.

I personally left school during grade 7 due to family issues, but I eventually enrolled with Intec many years later to complete my matric. I did mine over two years (at the time you could split your matric over two years) and went for private tuition as there were many years to catch up on especially with maths.

In the end, I completed matric two years later than I originally would have had I stayed at school, but it was worth it even though my results ended up not being too great.

In hindsight, enrolling with Intec didn't really benefit me. I would say go register for exams at a local school and try to get a hold of the syllabus from them. You should also go for tuition (be it privately, full time, or part time) as some concepts may not be easy to grasp on your own. Internet resources will be really helpful as well.

Hi Shaun108,

Thanks for the suggestion.

I have found out from Hesa and Unisa. The age exemption has been changed from 23+ years to 45+ years to qualify for exemption. That is a HUGE gap and I have tried to enquire more but I've hit a brick wall.

Thanks anyway. Regards

Hi YingYang,

I am 24 years of age. I believe that the matric 'piece of paper' still holds the value if you wish to study further or get a good job.

I have questioned myself. Ultimately I would like to progress, even at this age.

Thanks for your viewpoint. Regards

Oh, apologies. You're much younger than I thought!

Apart from matric, what do you actually want to study?

Hi Archie1,

I believe matric will be beneficial in the same way.

Congrats on obtaining your matric. I have found out from Intec about matric and the only course I am able to do is grade 10 at the moment. Followed by grade 11 and 12. One year per grade is required. Registrations closed on the 24th of January 2015. Will this be the best option in your opinion?

From this year the requirements to write matric has changed. Matric can now be written if you are over 21 years of age. It is only written in 6 months. That is my concern. Will I be able to cope? Even with the easiest subjects, I believe this will still be close to impossible without the previous years' knowledge.

Whichever course I do, I will be going for the tuition as the interaction between the student and teacher is a must to understand the work properly. That's where I fell short with doing grade 10 online in 6 months.

Thanks for the valuable advice. I will be following up on a few points mentioned.

No worries. Still got oceans to learn:)

I would like to study Bcom and branch out to Business Administration/Financial Management.
Depending on my marks as well.
If that does not workout,I will be doing Computer Science.

Thanks for assisting. Regards

Well I would say that you should possibly write matric next year in order to give yourself time to catch up with the basics. Six months is not a long time to catch up on all the previous years.

Use this year to set yourself up, to find your way through the subjects - and please don't take maths literacy lol.

Get a criminal record and become president. You might be over qualified though.

Have you considered becoming a priest?

These guys make quite a bit of money.

You've done the bible studies so why not or maybe you won't ne able to abstain.

Thanks a lot guys. You have been very helpful. God bless all. Regards
