I have some electronic "stuff for sale". Just want to post to see what the Interest would be.

1. Dial-Up Duxbury Modems - 2 of.
Maybe of interest to collectors
2. Boxes of "stiffies" -- 3.5 inch disks
3. Software packages complete with their packaging, manuals and disks/CDs.

1 & 2 seem more like give away items.
3 seems like straight in the bin items.
 
3½" diskettes were known as "Stiffies" or 3½" floppy disks
5¼" diskettes were known as floppy disks
8" diskettes were just known as diskettes

The 5¼" in the picture is single sided. Lack of write protect notch and hole on the left. You could normally make the notch and hole yourself. Notches were a thing long before iPhones.

Item 1. Those things... were even worthless back in 2005. I threw the ones I had, in the trash, not even people on Carbonite were interested
 
The people who buy vintage gear usually want it for free or for as little money as possible. I also don't think the vintage PC scene is massive in SA. Pity really as it is quite interesting to see old software and hardware again.

Are the disks used? Also could you give a few examples of the software you have?

I agree. I have no idea why I kept mine. Cleared the one out of my sister's set up recently. Still connected up. Even tried to use it but discovered that no one talks to these things anymore. The modems, however, both worked. Had some fun getting them to "talk" to each other.
 
Apparently there are some groups on Facebook that buy/sell vintage computer goods.
There's probably some stuff that is coveted and gets decent prices despite being practically useless/valueless to everyone bar a collector.

I'm one of the peeps trying my best to keep prices of vintage computing kit as low as possible for a few reasons;

1. It should be a passion and hobby, not a revenue stream.
2. There are many collectors here in SA that have little disposable income to buy these machines and components. Driving up prices keep the systems away from these true enthusiasts.
3. There are a number of costs you need to put on top of the price of the base unit; components, restoration, accessories (such as a PSU), etc. Don't even count the hours and test & repair equipment you invest. You might get that C64 for free, or for less than R500, but you're probably going to spend more than that getting it fully functional. And then you need to find a PSU; another R400.
4. Shipping alone can add significant costs. In total, I've spent thousands on shipping.

Fortunately, there is a great vintage computing community in SA with a culture of sharing and not trying to make money, buying and selling. People will rather swap units or sell for a few hundred Rand. Secondly, I found most people who have stuff they want to get rid of, will rather donate it to a collector than make money off it. I've met many wonderful people who held onto their babies for 30 years, so it's just the right thing to do to honour that passion. You do find the odd person who found something, Google'd Fleabay and ask for R15000..... But they're rare.

Lastly, as I mentioned, there is quite an active community of a bunch of piss-cats who collect and trade vintage systems. I'm probably primarily responsible for the "piss-cat" bit (years ago, I used to host the MyBB parties at my house, now they're Vintage Computing parties - amount of booze is about the same....)

I think what is sometimes worth money, is the hardware that is able to read these things. Although many years ago, I remember the utter scramble to find a machine that could read a stiffy. As there was a lot of data on them needed.

Of course, this is almost ridiculous these days what with all the back ups and cloud and all.

There is no way I am going to ever access and register for facebook.
Would much rather make contact with someone who may be interested in the "stuff" I have, which includes all sorts of things, such as drives, floppy drives, stiffy drives, Laptops, batteries, cables, memory stiffy disks, that I would rather clean first but are all available to whomever can use them. Not Looking to make bundles, just want some compensation and transport costs covered.

I have software galore, computer books, OS versions of windows all the way back to Wimdows 98, as well.

Maybe do a dedicated google search. This stuff is worthless until you find someone who has a need for such.

FB link was more in general.

If you post your stuff on one of the many buy and sell sites, someone will find it quickly enough it and post it on the FB group, in any case. :)
