Tomorrow I'll find out just how much their letter means, if they don't fix it I'm going to try and get the local newspaper involved. I don't see why I must spend money fixing my own driveway.

Pretty much what I'm expecting, who knows? But - the pavers do not belong to the municipality - AND - it goes against what they put in writing above.

:crylaugh: No such letters or notices in Bloemfontein. In my suburb or the neighbouring suburb being done by Frogfoot. Just ****ed up paving, broken water pipes, and overall destruction as far as the eye can see. Buggerall informing people of what is happening.

Had a good giggle at Frogfoot's sign board though. They placed it on a formerly beautiful lawn they had just totally destroyed and it reads "Frogfoot, we dig it here" :crylaugh: :crylaugh:

LOL tell me about it !

In LHP the past 3 weeks thanks to Frogfoot we've been without water on 4 separate occasions in the evening. Touch wood, it hasn't happened again since last week, but have a funny feeling that it might happen again this week. Has Frogfoot started in the Ridge already? I've only seen SADV/DFA doing the rounds there at the moment.

When I had my driveway and side-walk done I opted to go into a joint venture with the Bloemfontein Municipality as they took responsibility for the paving. I paid exactly the same amount that a contractor quoted. a few years ago the paving was dug up by a contractor appointed by the municipality(now a Metro for higher pay) to increase the size of the power cables. What a mess. The paving can longer be swept and the boxes around the trees have seven bricks on one side and eight on the other side. They robbed one resident of bricks to repair another residents drive way. I had to find someone who changed his paving and buy 200 bricks from him to repair my 20 year old drive way. The original agreement meant nothing. I am now waiting with bated breath for the optics that stopped short of my drive way.

I dont think there are any plans for Frogfoot to start in the Ridge. At least I hope not. That would be a monumental balls up as MANY more people have paving/lawn/features on the sidewalk in the ridge that can be hugely messed up.

Joint venture? Please explain.

Our of interest, I emailed ocotel and had a response within a couple of hours that they won't leave my driveway a mess - and will send someone out this morning to investigate.

I will update accordingly once I have feedback,

They do have plans for the Ridge. Go check their coverage map on their website. They'll most likely only start next year though, but yes...expect more of the same or even worse with Frogfoot than with SADV at the moment.

SADV has been working very neatly in LHP. The tar roads are in better condition after they've dug them up and fixed them :p Also seen them doing paving very neatly.

The road reserve (pavement in front of your house) belongs to the council/Roads Agency.

Most home owners incorrectly assume that they have "rights" when it comes to the pavement in front of their homes.

Contractors/sub-contractors are actually under no obligation whatsoever to restore driveways after they dig it up.

99.99% of home owner place their driveways on council land without approval.
Yes you actually need approval to build a brick/cement/tar driveway.

Once a contractor receives a wayleave they can pretty do what they want AS LONG AS they don't do anything in contravention of the wayleave stipulations.

Most companies (at least in Johannesburg) will try (some better than others) to put driveways back to their original condition. - or close to.

But with 15/20/100 year old bricks that's not always possible.

I know that Vumatel actually has contact people that you can phone & whine at, when your driveway is buggered.

Consider yourself lucky if the contractor uses a moling machine (tunnels underneath the driveway).
Moling is expensive but much quicker and FAR less invasive than trenching.

Best solution is during the townhall meeting, discuss the contractor procedures and get them to agree to restore driveways BEFORE work starts.

Well aware of that, however the city makes no effort to maintain their verge. I'm more than happy to remove my paving - leaving nothing but beach sand, we'll see how the city likes all the neighbours complaining.

Also - some of my pavers are missing - no one bas the right to take my property.

A month later, and no one has been round to fix the mess.

I'm no expert in this field but perhaps this would work?

1. Find the company that did it.
2. Dig up their pavement to their HQ.
3. Shout at them from that area beating your chest and raising your hands high to show alpha status.
4. If they do not meet your demands, defecate on their property and fling fecal matter spacially in all directions as a sign of your new dominance and property acquisition. Screaming or barking can alert females of your presence.
5. Walk on your hind legs while strutting to see whether any challengers have accepted your new alpha status.

Hahahaha, I know right. Had a similar thing with the municipality at my previous place. They dug up on our property, and disappeared for a good 3 months, my parents didn't fix anything. We were on the phone everyday with them, eventually they came through and fixed the mess they created.

To be fair, I've seen them come back and fix a few people's drive ways already.

As have I. Does that make what is happening to you (and probably countless others) more acceptable though?
