What can be done if the guys doing fibre stuff up your driveway and just leave?

They dug up the driveway a week or so ago, and this week "restored" it, if you can call it that.

Multiple pavers missing, driveway uneven, they haven't filled in between the pavers, etc. I previously paid 4500 for a similiar strech to be repaired.

Drove to where they're now busy to ask wtf, only to be told they're done here, nothing they can do.

Fortunately, mines not the worst looking, one of neighbours has almost very forth brick missing.

When they did in our area they took pics before the jobs, so that once completed it looks the same again

Not sure how they're going to do that with missing pavers.

Trying to find the letter to see who it was so I can call them.

When the cabling guys wanted to dig up our complex driveway I told them that if they lift it they must restore it. And if they have any doubt they can look up and see that they will be recorded with whatever they do there...
Then they opted to send their cable via the ducting for the gate system.

Who is the infrastructure provider/installer? Vumatel had a regional manager that people could complain to.

Luckily, here the guys are using Telkom’s poles. However, getting these ‘installers’ access to do installs in the neighbouring yards seems to be a big hassle. At least we still have driveways.

Some contractor laid fibre across our driveway, lost some pavers in the process, seemed to send a third party around a few days later to try sort it out, incl a few other spots down the road, used some different colour pavers to replace the missing ones and "sorted it out" , looks pretty ugly.

Not much we can do, bastards.

Vumatel came around a few months ago with leaflet and plans to tell me where they'll be trenching. Told them to rather go under my driveway.

They went as far as to tunnel even further to save my spekbome next to the driveway as well...no hassles at all.

They also had to go under a lot of paving across the road at friend's house. Paving was restored perfectly.

There are many horror stories and there are many good/quality stories when it comes to the fibre cable laying.

I do believe the cabling companies are subcontractors, so not only will the staff vary the cabling company will also vary per area.

Although I haven’t personally been affected Vumatel did the entire area around us and walking my daughter to school and back while it was ongoing I must say I was deeply impressed by their speed as well as quality of work.

I have no seen a single properly that doesn’t look the same as it did before except where grass is involved of course.

One chap was literally in the process of finishing the paving on his corner plot just before they started and I’m convinced they actually finished the job for him.

Few years back, Vuma did our area. Dug up the driveway and also damaged my irrigation in the process. Within a week of completion they sorted everything out, including laying new irrigation. But the driveway paving was not up to scratch (loose pavers and a few missing). Contacted the area manager (name was provided on the leaflet supplied). He came round that same evening to do an inspection in my presence, and by the next evening all was sorted. No idea where they got the matching pavers from, but driveway was rectified.

The only issue was the grass - they did not lay down the standard "strips" to completely cover the area where the trench was dug and the new irrigation layed. They just put in "clumps" of grass here and there. Took about a year to cover up completely.

Took a walk up the road, my half has been finished off badly, the other half (they did after us), you can hardly see they've worked there.

Copy of letter received, will give them a call tomorrow.

:crylaugh: No such letters or notices in Bloemfontein. In my suburb or the neighbouring suburb being done by Frogfoot. Just ****ed up paving, broken water pipes, and overall destruction as far as the eye can see. Buggerall informing people of what is happening.

Had a good giggle at Frogfoot's sign board though. They placed it on a formerly beautiful lawn they had just totally destroyed and it reads "Frogfoot, we dig it here" :crylaugh: :crylaugh:
