ok, this is a little weird, so I need someone to verify this for me.

I have been trying to get to my favourite site...

http://www.stumbleupon.com/

and have been struggling... the site would not open in Firefox or Internet Explorer... so I did a ping... no response from site...

checked my hosts file, not blocked there... not blocked in my browser security settings... which means it must be being blocked on the network somewhere.

I configured my browser to use the Telkom DSL cache.. .

http proxy: dsl-cache.saix.net
port: 8080

and now the site loads!

is it possible that the site is being shaped by Telkom outside of the proxy (I dunno why they would want to do that? because of it's popularity? or is it just heavy traffic? what do you guys think?

By the way... if you have not yet installed stumbleupon... I highly recommend it for addictive internet surfing!!!

Doubt its being shaped "outside the proxy" because all traffic is routed through a transparent proxy anyway. Just tried it now with my normal settings and it loaded perfectly.

Yeah, methinks it's related to http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=61969 ... International bandwidth has gone to hell... *cries a bit*
