So I was browsing the website looking at the new contracts.

http://www.cellc.co.za/99c-build-your-own-contract

And basicaly you can only choose blackberry phones so I chose one (3/5)

YOUR CONTRACT:
STRAIGHT UP
200
R349
PM
ON A 24 MONTH CONTRACT
BLACKBERRY CURVE 9380
INCLUDES:
200 ANY TIME MINUTES
200 MONTHLY SMS'S
200 MB MONTHLY DATA
ALL QUOTED BLACKBERRY DEAL PRICES
EXCLUDE VALUE ADDED SERVICES (EG, BIS)

Firstly WTF do you need 10/20/50/100/400/200mb of data with a blackberry if you have BIS? And why exclude the BIS which is basically the only feature of having a Blackberry. In 2 years of having my old blackberry used 0mb of data everything went through BIS.

Good idea on cell c part the contracts but the execution seems to be a fail...

Simplify by selling customers data that they won't use and then making them pay extra for BIS....

Very simple

Well for the majority of people the only reason they go with Blackberry is because of the cheap internet. So i think most people will be happy receiving free data as they can now move onto other phones such as Iphones and Androids etc without having to worry about the high cost of internet. Sure 50mb might not be alot but you can always add a smart data package such as the 3gb for R400 which = 250mb a month for only R33.

At the end of the day you are getting a cheap call rate which is what counts

The point is this is a contract for a blackberry - not for an andoid/iphone. See the phone I selected. So why have the 3 out of 5 choices a blackberry phone, when the main feature of the contract is getting equal data.

Blackberry with out BIS is just brick in terms of functionality. So why market a blackberry with out it - people buy blackberry cause all there friends are on BBM.

I agree with the OP. At least on Control Chat you can use inclusive airtime to buy the BIS service. Here you will have to pay extra.

My question is why I can't choose for example a Samsung Galaxy SIII or HTC One X with a Straight Up 30 or Straight Up 100. I thought the whole point was to be able to mix and match. Now it seems like you need to take a Straight Up 800 to get a decent phone.. unlike the option of say an off peak or weekender type contract.

HI

The way to look at it is, you paying eg... R200 for 200minutes PER Second billing. 200 sms, 200 MB.
Basically you paying for minutes.
As well as able to call over seas to 34 countries for 99c.
In reality is best value for money.

The CellC Build Your Own Contract on their Straight-Up deals is fully functional. Pick either contract or top-up. Select (any) phone and a contract length. The system generates common phones used with your initial selection of contract. But on the extreme right hand side of the phone selection portion is a tab where you canb select any phone CellC has to offer. Then select any value-added services you want. Remember this is general selection screen, so items like BIS are not automatically included. I have data tagged on to my BB as not all things are included in BIS like streaming video or if you want to use your phone as a modem (which I sometimes do) or if you want to make use of the Mobile Hotspot feature available with OS 7.1.

True, but then allow us to "downsize" contracts, i.e. remove data bundles.
