Stupid excel question

I have to put in a phone number 016 xxx xxx
The Zero disappears, how do I make sure it shows up?

Change cell format to "Text".

Then you don't have to type in the '

Or, assuming all phone numbers are the same length, edit the cell format to make sure that the correct number of digits display.

Right-click > Format Cells

Under Number, select Custom and in the Type box, input in as many zeros as the length of your phone numbers. This will ensure that all numbers in the cells are displayed with that many digits.

Doesn't work

Strange?? It works when I do it. I've got Office '07. I type eg. 083, hit spacebar 7890343 - works every time.
Otherwise do what MD suggested and change format to text.

Format the entire column to TEXT. One less character to type each time!
