Hi cavedog!
Thank you for the post.
I know all this from beginning of use 8ta. This is my second 60+60 SIM in smartphone and i use it from March.
Nothing changes from my side but these SMS start to arrive only in August.
I found third solution today - installed blacklist app from Playstore.
081188 is blocked for receiving SMS to my phone.

PS! Data roaming was disabled in phone settings all the time!

ohh ok yeah then something is wrong or yeah telkom mobile is just sending those sms in error. But yeah I know they can be very annoying.

Ohh and yeah that Zopo looks freaking awesome. Did you import it..... I really miss my chinese android.... The dual sim is so awesome actually.

OP if you getting annoyed at receiving such SMS here is a solution to your problem contact 8ta/telkom mobile direct and demand them to convert your line to make use of Telkom Mobile/8ta network problem solved but you will be unable to roam on MTN network or alternatively you can opt out from the service by contacting their help desk but remember if you get a get a bill shocker(annoyed that airtime is being subtracted without your knowledge you will be disappointed).

That SMS has it advantaged/disadvantaged cause it is notifying the individual that data is now being removed etc.

Hi RichardG
You don't need to explain to me all this things - i know all the story.
This is the fact:
1. I bought from 8ta 60+60G prepaid amount of data. My voice calls working through CellC - second SIM
2. I fully aware that DATA working ONLY on 8ta network
3. I got some airtime for the VOICE CALLS on 8ta for any case (and this is roaming on MTN if 8ta is not present in this particular area)
4. I was 1000% happy for more than 2 years - everythings was working 100%
5. From sometime in August i start to receive gazillions of SMS that my DATA BUNDLE IS DEPLETED !!!
6. WHICH DATA bundle? For me it's mean that i HAD SOME UNKNOWN DATA BUNDLE and it is used for data exchange and it finished. What is another meaning of this message?
7. My Smartphone is very good and very quick - when i'm driving it quickly react to the mobile network changes and reconnect to the next available provider in no time. This is for the voice calls. DATA roaming is prohibited (by settings) and phone not tried to establish data connection if 8ta network is not accessible.
8. When i'm driving and data connection with 8ta is lost, i immediately receive stupid SMS from 8ta. Next 100M - 5kM to the next coverage point end and i receive another SMS . . . This afternoon i receive ~20 SMS by driving on M1 from Killarney Shopping Malle to Woodmead. . . .

Did you try to disable data connection when traveling? Data stops flowing outside of TM network anyway.

You don't need an app to block calls/sms. It's built in. Open message and "Register as spam" from the Menu button. There is more settings to block number starting/ending/containing defined numbers.

(I have an Android 4.1.2 Samsung)

This is original idea of my post.
Why 8ta has to use SMS/usage of computing/network resources/etc to notify me every 10 sec that my "bundle is depleted"?
Again: WHICH bundle IS depleted? 60+60? There is still 25+40 and i don't have any other . . .
