I just made the stupid mistake of pulling off my chipset heatsink. It suprisingly came off quite easily - it had two lever type things holding it there and I couldn't resist...

It has some sticky paste stuff on it. Should I just jam it back on or should I rather put some CPU thermal paste on it?

Replacing the thermal paste is the safest option :)

You might be able to get away with just jamming it back on, but I'd advise replacing the thermal paste.

should be fine as long as you did not damage the little plastic thingies

if you did you will need to replace it

Okay well I didn't break anything. I've just pushed it back on - was a bit hard to get it aligned properly. I'll monitor the temps and if it get's worrying I'll stick on some thermal paste.
