Stupid unenforceable laws

They should at least allow you to buy wine on Sundays (from PnP for example). It often happens that we are invited to a Sunday braai last minute, and then don't have anything to drink. What is wrong with a bottle of wine?

One law I still can't get over, is the fact that just a few years back you were actually allowed to smoke in an aeroplane!!! I can faintly remember the days that people still smoked in shopping centres, but it is almost unimaginable that it was allowed a few years back. I certainly would not smoke in Edgars or ABSA even if we were allowed to. Just wouldn't feel right?

So go to Spar or a bottle store; they can sell alcohol up till 1PM, I think.

Recreational fishing license KZN: About R560 per year (was R45 max), result = Nobody fishes, bait & tackle shops are customerless.

The horror. A braai. Sober. Just pick up some cocaine on your way. No Sunday restrictions on that.

Interestingly enough, the cabin air was much cleaner back then and you were less likely to pick up disease from other passengers.

I don't know if they changed this now, but a few years ago I heard about this law.
In England theres a law that states that everyone has to do an hour of archery a day.
This laws from the middle ages, because the england archers helped win alot of battles.
And they never bothered to get rid of the law.

It’s law to carry a bale of hay in a taxi’s boot for the horse. Never been repealed. Same with the contradictory health laws (for restaurant’s). You CANNOT comply with all the laws without breaking others because of contradiction. These are not enforced if you behave but Big Brother can always legally get you (because you are breaking a law) if they want to harass, jail or bankrupt you. Charming 1st world character. Of course, here in SA they are just stupid and unenforceable.

Me thinks, these petty laws are for a reason. So when Big Brother locks you up and can't prove you commited a crime they will nail you with one me these petty laws.

They used to have to cycle the air much more than they do now due to the smoke. I'll find a link for you.

I'd be interested in seeing that, because it doesn't sound right, on the face of it.

(Incidentally, such a link may be a correlation, but not causal - I know airlines have cut back on a number of things, and oxygen content/pressure may be one of them).

I wonder how many other laws have not yet been repealed. Like that one that law that said a husband is allowed to beat his wife provided that the stick was no thicker than his thumb!! It could be fun to go through the statute books except have you seem how many there are!!!

Nope... (TIC) you need to go to church to get your Sunday ration... Not to mention that that holy wine was really good stuff, as I remember. (I haven't taken communion since my confirmation way back.) But you can buy wine at Woolies Foodstores on Sundays referring to a bottle of Merlot bought for a friend as a last minute birthday gift.

In England there is still no age of consent for males (except in the case of a major having sex with a minor). This is because the law still reads though shall not ravage a madain who is not of age. Every time they change 'of agae' it still only applies to females.

I have the same issue with freshwater fishing licences in the Western Cape. Cape Nature Conservation takes our money and then proceeds to alienate us fishermen. The money from those licenses should go towards fishery management.
