Hi - anyone driving a, SUBARU OUTBACK 2.5I PREMIUM CVT (Automatic). I am intersted in buying it 2nd hand, I am sure you can search for it on the internet (but please leave it for me - don't go & buy it - if you think it is a good deal). Price was given @ approx R160K. I need some first hand knowledge, when it comes to performance & maintenance and obviously price. I am not at knowledgable when it comes to cars, let alone Subaru's.:)

I have owned 3 Outbacks, and have had 3 Outbacks as demo vehicles and they are brilliant!

R 160k is OK re price, but you MUST check that it has had its 100 000 km service and cambelt change at a Subaru dealership.

There are very few hassles with this model, providing all servicing has been done. That CVT box is virtually bullet proof as is the engine.

Buy it and ENJOY! :D

Thanks Fazda, the mileage is only 62500km at the moment, so I do not think the cambelt change has taken place yet - I will go have a look today @ the vehicle, FSH is available as well.

OP, does it have an extended plan? If so, you are laughing.

If it's normal plan, it's just had its last free service, but nothing to worry about as services are actually cheaper than a Tazz in the long run.

Only nasty one is the 100 000 which will set you back between 8 and 12k depending on what is done.

At 62 000 she's not even approaching being run in!! :)

I'm looking at this car as well, only next year though.

160k for under 100 000km is very nice. Also looking at the Forrester.

i drive the legacy wagon. Brilliant car. Just k#k heavy on fuel, but then, i drive with heavy foot.

Service plan came to an end @ 60K Km already, but I will see if I can get something on the "no so expensive side". I have a Proton Gen 2, 2006 model @ the moment, the 180K km service was close to R8K, taking in considertation, I will have no monthly payment, I will start saving for tyres, pertrol & service.

Fazda, as stated Service plan is not included, they are officering me:
- Service Plan 24mths / 40K km, close to R12K
- Maintenance Plan 24mths / 60K km, close to R42K
- Insurance through McCarthy Insurance Service (Maxi Cover), 2bl cover for 2 years / unlimited km's, R9695-00, once off amount

Service & Maintenance, not taking this. McCarthy Insurance plan, working out to R400p.m. over 24mths, is this ok, or is there better options out there?

I took the car for a spin yesterday, went quite well.

This is where I would be prepared to gamble.

That 2 year service plan will cover the cambelt change, but I'm not sure how much it will cover, so you want to make certain that the full 100 000 service is covered otherwise you will be forking out yet another 12k at 100 000.

As far as the Mtce Plan goes, your belt change will be covered, as will anything that goes wrong in that period, but 42k is a great deal of money to fork out now.

The gambler in me says just take an extended warranty and pay for your own servicing, and you will probably save money - but that's me!! :)

Fazda, slightly off topic. Would you know what it would cost to extend the XV's maintenance plan from 3yrs/75k km to 5yrs/100k ?

Sure, there are a couple of options - 4 years 105 000 costs R 9440 and 5 years 120 000 is R 26520, but that has to be done before buying the car - Motorite does a similar one, and it can be added after you buy, but I don't have those prices.

****ing crazy the prices stealerships ask for a service  HOW do you justify R10k for a service?

At R10k it probably at least includes changing the cambelt and everything associated with that.

You obviously don't understand how a Maintenance Plan works

EVERYTHING is covered up to the final mileage/time, if you need new brake pads, brake discs, literally anything mechanical as well. If you pop the motor, it's covered. The ONLY thing you pay for is petrol and tyres.

So it has sweet blow all with what a dealer charges for a service.

On the Outback, you would be looking at a cambelt change at 100 000, which can cost 12 to 15k in some cases - all covered under that plan.

Is there anyone here that knows what gets replaced with a service that costs 10k? I mean specific components.

How the **** can you claim I do not know how a Maintenance Plan works? And BTW, what does it have to do with my question? I said, what justifies a R10k service. Read my other posts.
