What's the deal with these cars.
People seem to think they are really great, to be honest I have never even sat inside one - let alone been for a drive in one.
I have never liked the look of them - and those gold rims on some of them - wtf ??
Over the years I have owned many brands, but subaru has one that has never ever even been considered.

What am I missing ?

They are driver's cars. Responsive, entertaining and the beat of that boxer motor is awesome

This. Sticks to the road like glue.

They used to look the part too but unfortunately that is no longer the case.

Actually, now that I remember - I actually have been in one, quite dull and uninspiring. Possibly one of the most boring cars I have ever travelled in. A ride in a Golden Arrow bus in Cape Town would have been more fun.
Granted, the owner drove like my grandmother would, and the subaru was a station- wagon thing - but none the less, as dull as cold dish water.

That's the driver not the car :-)

One the one hand they make boring 4WD station wagons and then crazy rally cars on the other hand. Really off the wall brand but that is part of the appeal. You were in the wrong one bud :D

They all seem butt-ugly, especially those that had the high kitsch gold rims (yea, blue car with gold rims - makes one want to upchuck)

They not fast anymore.
The competition is where Subaru was 4 years ago.
Subaru just stagnated fast.
Still good strong reliable cars.

But look how far they have come from the blue impreza with the gold rims(2003) to the 2013 impreza.
The new Subaru XV looks very nice with the new black rims and the foresters from 2006+ look a lot better than the ones before and they continue to improve just take a look at the 2014 forester.

As for the best part of the car will most certainly be the handling of the car it is absolutely glued to the road.
The 2.5l turbocharged boxer engine is an absolute work of art.
There is also no torque steer as the transmission and engine is dead center in the car so the distance between the two front wheels is equal to the transmission.
The low center of gravity of the boxer engine improves stability.
Also Subaru's reliability is tops.

Forester 2.5XT(2006) 170 000KM and going strong no problems whatsoever.

The old "scoobies" were real drivers cars, they stuck to the road and went like hell, closest thing to a go-kart on the road.

they for people who like to drive. Like to work their cars for the pleasure of driving

Few years ago, I drove the old station wagon - and it moved, if you right foot told it to.
I was actually toying with the idea of getting rid of the bimmer and getting an Impreza - then I realised that they're a bit insane on fuel economy - especially coming drom a Turbo Diesel.
I'd love it as a weekend car though :D

You clearly are not a car person.

And THIS! ^ :D

A bit OT: But why in (Insert your God's name here) name don't we have the international standard's competition for the Impreza here. ie: Mitsubishi Evo.
I'd rather have an Evo, but I've never seen them at a dealership or for a private sale.... :(

Yeah it would have been a run of the mill one then, the angry fire breathing ones would be different. I have always been a fan, unfortunately they have suffered some horrible designs over time but Im still a fan.

We are getting the new Evo X, overpriced though.

The older ones are beautiful
