For the last couple of years I have being drinking way too much Coke. Around a litre a day more often than not two litres a day.

I knew it wasnt good for me, but I just love that bubbly coke taste. Anyone who knows me can testify to this addiction.

Its not being great for the body fat either.

So Coke Zero comes out, and I actually like its taste, and I have completely switched from Coke to Coke Zero.

Problem is now, with the amount of sugar I was consuming a day it seems my body became dependent on the sugar in the Coke.

For the last two days I wake up feeling like I havent slept for 3 days, and my whole body just feels like slumping. I am also more irritable.... as yesterdays posts will show.

Seems this happens to more than a few people: http://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-symptoms-of-sugar-withdrawal.htm

Anyone else experienced this?

Yup, it usually lasts for a week or so before your body recoups and figures out it won't get the sugar and starts functioning normally.

Basically you ****ed with your metabolism a bit, sugar = instant energy/high so now you're just experiencing the low before your body decides to kick in and work like it should to get that energy.

You'll be fine, just don't relapse

i have never taken in enough sugar often enough to become addicted to the stuff..
Push through it, maybe have a little sugar to ween yourself off it, cold turkey is always hard.

U still have teeth after that amount of coke?

I cut out sugar filled sodas just 2 months ago. Not because I had to, but because I just wanted to. I must say I feel better now that I drink sugar free stuff. Don't give up on cutting the refined sugar out because it is worth it!

Dude we are so similar. I buy about 3 x 2L Cokes for a weekend and I mostly drink it alone (I drink them at night). I need it to obviously quench my thirst (it doesn't), but I love the taste of it and it keeps me awake until the early hours of the morning. I also recently started drinking Coke Zero, but only now and then. I must say, I haven't experienced any of the symptoms that you are. I guess everyone's body is different.

Just watch out with all these sugar-free products. The artificial sweeteners are easy to get addicted to because of the mental "it's healthier" factor :)

Wizard that a large amount of coke lol.

Did it effect your weight by any chance? i know someone who drinks that much a day and skinny as a rake.

Cool..nice substitute...You gonna be fine..its only sugar..at least you weren't lacing your coke with heroin..:D

Ok, is Coke Zero sugar sweet or is it Aspartame """sweet"""? - bcos my taste buds are Aspartame detectors and I really hate the taste of Aspartame.

I know that most beverages contain aspartame, but between the two you asked about, I wouldn't know what they taste like, sorry :o
What I can tell you is that you will note the difference in taste. I prefer the normal Coke, probably cos of the sweet taste.

I didn't like the artificial coke so I just got rid of it entirely. But I agree 100% that the stuff is damn addictive. Now I only drink coffee, 100% beans (ground by machine), black with no sugar. Sure there is the caffeine debate but at least the sugar is gone.

Anyone here experience blurry vision on the artificial sugar - a friend of mine did but I have never experienced it so maybe he was blowing smoke?

It is *suspected* that it could increase epileptic fits, which would probably involve a similar region of the brain as blurry vision...so I wouldn't discount you friends report outright.

Recently found out that all the fizzy multi-vit drinks (supradin etc) also contain aspertame and the other one (something with a K at the end).

I stick to the normal coke...better to take a known risk than something where the risk is unknown imo.
