Suggested destination ...

Looks like the south coast of KZN. Someone must recognise the spot...

Blu, what is your budget? If you have some dough (fairly large quantity) stashed somewhere then I really suggest Bali. Amazing place. Or if you don't mind two 10 hour flights (Jhb - London - Barbados) go to Barbados and then take a cruise around the Grenadines. Most amazing holiday of my life. :D

I clean forgot Bali is an island :D

Been there already (sorry Lancelot).

... for the December / January holidays, please.

Every year, seats on planes and accommodation get booked full earlier and earlier !!

Wanted to go to India, but decided against it.
Wanted to go to Reunion, but all flights for December are booked.
Mauritius/Seychelles too full during December.

Looking for a beach / island type / doing-nothing-the-whole-day-long type of getaway.

Anyone been to Mombassa?

Thanks :)

My aunt and uncle own and run this hotel http://www.mango-lodge.com/

Think they have openings over christmas - i stayed there for 3 months, best 3 months of my life.... That hotel has the best views on the island, maybe best in seychelles.

Can give you a reference if you like :)

Let me know if you need any other info...

I am curious ... if you e.g. book a flight and just pitch up on the island, would it be very hard to get accommodation if you did not book beforehand?

I wouldnt suggest it - Praslin is a small island, often gets booked out quickly.
And to get a good hotel/room you should book early enough.
If you are interested in going, get hold of Leslie at Mango Lodge and ask about accomodation. Its a 5 minute walk down to the beach, you stay under mango and passion fruit tree's with all sorts of other goodies around.
Nov/Dec --> Feb is their busy time, good weather, warm water and plenty of whale sharks...

Go to the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico - awesome!!! Beautiful place, plenty heritage, friendly people, good food - top class destination...

+1. I also reccomend Acapulco, Mexico. Absolutely kickass. Will be a hell of a long flight front JNB though.

Goto the South of France, am sure RyderJHB will second that :)

+1. But be prepared to spend. $$$

I still think Mozambique is one of the world's most unspoilt beach holiday destinations. And it's right at our back door! Try the Bazaruto island group (just off Vilankulos).
