Fellow Mybroadband experts!

I'm upgrading my current 6 year old PC to something mid range and hopefully it will last for another 6 years. My current PSU is a no name 750w and am a bit nervous using it with my new parts.

I'm not gaming at the moment but would like to have the option if I want to in the future. So no graphics card for now.

New setup:

Motherboard: MSI Z77 G43
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K - 3.4GHz CPU - LGA 1155
Ram: Corsair ValueSelect DDR3 1333MHz Memory Module - 4GB (X2)
HDD: 40gb & 80gb IDE & 500gb & 2TB Sata
Drive: LG DVD-rom

What would you guys recommend for a new PSU? I tried psu calculator and said I need a 350w, which I feel I probably made a mistake in the inputs...haha!

No gpu? What exactly are you using the pc for?

haha! GPU will come later, when I've got some cash.

Will be using it for movie rendering, photoshop, assignments, presentations, browsing, series.

Currently got an ATI raedon 3870 which I'll use until then. Only have about R500 for a GPU at the moment but I think a new psu is more important at the moment?!

No use getting those specs without a GPU

Get a dual core will be more than enough

@OP

This should suffice imho. Although you should have a look around to see if you can get some better pricing on it.

Start off with a DDR5 Card 1Gb 128bit at least

PSU a 500 or 600 antec would do well or corsair I like them corsair's

That MB has no IDE.

Ya - Sorry forgot to mention that I'll be taking them out. Moving all the data onto my sata drives. Copied and pasted from an old document I have of my pc specs.

Thanks - was actually looking at the 600w of the same range. Would that be fine?

Yup. Only chose the 700w as it's only a few bucks more, and we're not sure what kind of GPU you will be buying in the future. But the 600w should handle everything including a nice enough GPU without any hassles.

Are you buying from TakeAlot by any chance? Just ordered the same MB and CPU among other components from them. Can't wait for delivery. Pretty psyched ;)

they have a very nice little app that you can calculate your needs.

I would have got me a Corsair TX650 and my setup is maybe slightly smaller than yours, but my case is a bit awkward so had to get a CoolerMaster GS650 instead.

Corsair is best. their TX range makes beautiful power.

I used Vision Tech now but it seems like their site is down...

Evetech keeps stuff in stock, walk in and buy. awesome service and GREAT aftersale service!

PS: stay away from sybaritic

Haha nicely stated ;)

I prefer OCZ PSU's. They make sexy power :D But getting them in this country is horridly difficult.

Isn't it like Russian brides? After the import you must marry!

For someone on a tight budget - what would you recommend?

Ordered my MB, CPU and RAM from digitalsushi.co.za. The owner matched wootware.co.za prices for me. Plus he's close to me - prefer to pick me pc parts up than have them delivered. However, my friend may be able to get the GS600 cheaper for me.

On a tight budget - that's why I was looking at the Corsair GS 600W.

Don't know how accurate it is, but I have used http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/Power before. Said I need a 430w power supply, but I bought a 720w instead. Guess I am over compensating, or future proofing or something.

Nothing wrong with future proofing.
Just remember that as technology changes new specifications emerge... I can't use a 500W from 3 years back but can use a 500W from today's PSU's on today's mobo's.

PS - nothing wrong with Sybaritic
Seriously, got my PSU there, zero issues, and check my sig for how it all turned out. I strongly advise you keep your rambling to that one thread of yours
