Suggestions for joysticks for BF:BC2

I'm looking for a decent joystick that I can use to fly choppers in BattleField:Bad Company 2, because I'm not keen on practising on how to fly all the different choppers with the mouse & keyboard ;)

The joystick should at least have a throttle & rudder, but I'm not sure if something like Force Feedback would be of any benefit in the game?

Currently I'm looking at the Logitech Extreme™ 3D Pro, but I'm not sure if that is the best option to go for in SA.

I still have an old MS Sidewinder joystick that uses a game port, so I'll need a game port 2 USB adapter if I want to use that one.

Well like you mentioned you do not know about the difference force feedback makes on a Joystick. I have the Logitech Force 3D Pro Force Feedback USB Joystick and it is really nice. The downside is that not all flight simmulators actually caters for the force feedback. In that case the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro is a good choice.

You can also have a look at the Cyborg F.L.Y 5 Flight Stick if you are into funny looking peripherals.

Yip that's a decent joystick. It was my previous joystick and used it to much success in BC2. There's no force feedback, which is great imo. The throttle on the joystick wasn't great in BC2 so I just used the keyboard. One thing I couldn't change was the yaw direction, twisting left you'd expect a nose left moment. But it was reversed so, twisting left made the nose go right. Coordinating the turns took some getting used to.

My current joystick is really badass and makes flying fun, but is serious overkill for BC2.
 
I have the logitech 3d pro force feedback and I think it is one of the worse joysticks around. It is not very accurate and cannot be calibrated with regards to centering in Windows 7. Only good thing about it is the force feedback, but it is not a precision joystick by a long way.
 
Hmm, so far it doesn't seem like the Logitech joysticks are any good, especially when it comes to calibration...

If you guys would reckon that it would last a few years without giving problems, then I'm definitely going for it. I have to add that I'm not playing that much - perhaps twice a week for 3 hours or so.

@cleask, can you recommend any other joysticks then?

@kat06sa, what joystick do you have currently then?
 
Honestly the choppers in bfbc2 are so easy to fly, a joystick is not really needed.

bf2 yes awesome stuff but bfbc2 the choppers are so limited.

QFT. You can do everything you need to with a mouse and KB.
 
The best force feedback joystick ever is the MS Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 which is no longer made. So in the FF area there is not much that one can recommend. I would look at Thrustmaster ( Thrustmaster T-Flight Std or Hotas X ) and then Saitek Cyborg Fly 5 for a decent joystick, albeit entry level.
If FF is an absolute must then Logitech is the way to go, but don't expect the joystick to stay centred correctly after a couple of months.

If you got the cash to burn then its gotta be on the Saitek X-65F :love:
 
Does that Cyborg FLY 5 have a rudder (twist action), because the specs doesn't say whether it has one or not?
 
My joystick arrived this morning, so the couriers took quite a while to ship it from Jhb to Stb, because they already collected it from Zaps Online on Tuesday morning (11:17).
I'll let you guys know how it goes with the joystick.
 
Anyone got the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro working with BC2? I haven't been able to.

My twist (yaw) was also inversed in BC2, as well as my throttle.

2nd instance (throttle)'s GUID = E303BB73-9834-11E0-8B72-88A789A234B9
6th instance (yaw)'s GUID = E303BB83-9834-11E0-8B72-88A789A234B9
7th instance (pitch of UAV) = E303BB83-9834-11E0-8B72-88A789A234B9 <- accidentally set this one instead of the yaw, which is why I know this one

My Cyborg FLY joystick had quite a big dead-spot when you tilt it left (X-axis), but it was quite easy to fix it in the calibration application.
Unfortunately you have to exit the game, change the values, then open the game again to test it.

Apologies for the thread necro, but I am keen to hear how your Cyborg Fly 5 is treating you?

Any comments would be appreciated as I am looking at getting one.
 
Since I got it, I haven't really played at all :( I played like 3 or 4 times the past few months.

Playing with the joystick is probably more difficult than with the keyboard if you already gotten the hang of playing with the keyboard.

Ah ok. I am getting pretty used to the kb / mouse. I just find Jets a mission to fly, choppers are not to bad.
 
For BF3 it might be worth it. I'll see if I can get the time to play same BF3 with a Jet this weekend.

I was on a rampage with the anti-aircraft turret yesterday :D Like 16:2 or something. None of the Jets shot back at me - probably because everyone is trying to fly with keyboards.

Whats your ingame nick?

Some of the best pilots use mouse and keyboard to fly. It's just a matter of getting used to it.
