I have the Vodafone Huawai PCMCIA 3g/HSDPA modem and recently got a new notebook. The only problem is the new notebook doesn't have a PCMCIA slot  Anybody know where I can get a USB-PCMCIA adapter? Or should I simply go for a new USB modem?

Hi

I had a similar problem a while back and probably made about 50 phone calls to all sorts of weird computer hardware suppliers and communications providers. I also searched everywhere on the internet and it seems that a PCMCIA to USB converter just doesn't exist. It seems like such a simple device doesn't it, and you'd think in this day in age a simple little external converter will be available... Anyways, I would suggest getting the USB modem.

Elan makes such an adaptor. Just check that you get the right one for your card.

/edit - See Csnoopy posted the link.... :)

LOL!!!

According to Elan's distributor's website that thing costs R1,590.30. I might as well just buy a USB modem.

Agree, the adaptors are also not compatable with all cards (to do with their internal architecture) and it's a big, bulky thing.

The E220 is small, performs well and can do 3.6Mb/s. Can't you get one on contract?

Yes, I just phoned 155 and I can upgrade contract at the end of the month - so I'll get the USB modem when I upgrade.
