Suits

Do you have different suits for business, daytime leisure, and evening leisure?

Recent threads on suits have got me thinking. I am out of my depth when it comes to suits and formal wear. I have two suits, in the same style and same colour (black), and wear them for everything that requires a suit. They are slightly different sizes so one is better when I'm chonky, and the other when I’m skinny (thankfully the skinny one fits better right now).

How fashionable are you?

The poll doesn’t even touch on colour, so if you have multiple colours in some style, tell us in the comments.
I have a few that were made by tailors. Shop bought clothes don’t always fit well, the few shirts and pants I bought from shops I had refitted at Tidy tucs.

Mine are off-the-shelf, altered. So yeah, tailored is the next step.

My weight fluctuates too much for me to purchase a suit
Ja. Any decent suit will fit well & even just a few months of working out can change someone enough that the suit will fit kak / too tight / too loose.

So how's this work? You buy something that fits reasonably well and get a tailor to perfect the fit?

Pretty much. When you buy, they take some measurements, do some alterations, and you pick it up a few days later.

What are you going to/did you get married in?
No interest in marriage. But if I was, probably some bohemian outfit. Loose mesh pants over black leggings and black boots, with a tight fitting stretchy black shirt sounds like a good idea for now. Maybe throw in a mesh vest as well for good measure.

Very few off-the-shelf suits will fit perfectly. hence the need for minor alterations. Mind you a suit that fits well does feel classy.

Just curious about cost. Decent off-the-shelf suit + tailor.

I rent one when I need it.

I rented once when I was a groomsman. It was baby-blue and absurdly frilly. Think the place was called Eurosuit, and it cost close to R1k, which may have easily been half the price of buying a cheap/average suit back then.

I paid around R800 from Eurosuit (At Canal Walk) a few months ago, didn't look too bad. I'm considering buying one but it's fck off expensive nowadays. Good thing I didn't buy one a few years ago when my wife wanted me to because I lost quite a lot of weight last year, it wouldn't have fitted me anymore.

Prices seem in the R400 - R650 range here

No idea what the quality is like on those / stain visibility etc.

The last one I bought was ~R5k. Wool suit, not a designer brand, just enough to get away with looking formal when needed. Tailoring was free with initial purchase.
