Cesc played in the under 17 spanish world cup and got noticed in that.He chose arsenal over barca as he knew he wont get much game time.
yep merida is another production of the barca youth system.

Not exactly. Under Spanish law Barca could not offer him a pro deal till he turned 18. That's how Arsenal were able to sign him so cheap and easily. That's the same way Arsenal sign most of their youngsters. They use the fact that in continental Europe it's illegal to offer a professional contract till the player turns 18 while it's it's legal in England.

From a interview with cesc:

“It was difficult,” he says, “but I knew I wanted to play first-team football and I thought I’d have the chance with Arsenal. I knew if I could get on the pitch I could show people what I could do."

Reason England has to get young players abroad is because you not allowed under British law to take a youth into your team who lives a certain distance from your stadium eg: Manchester United cant go to Liverpool and sign a youth from there.Hence you get players like wallcott/rooney who sign on at a later stage with bigger clubs, even though those bigger clubs were very aware of their talents before then.

i dont know why riikjaard is getting the blame

ronaldino has been out most of the season
deco has been injured
eto has been injured
messi has been injured

i mean imagine united losing rooney and ronaldo to injury for most of the season

nobody would blame ferguson

Reason why FR is out is cos his tactics. He is mostly criticised for the formations he chooses to play, and his lack to adapt and change the formation when needed.

As SupaSta said, anything else besides winning the Spanish Cup, League and Champions League is NOT good enough. That is pure and simple, i watched loads of Henry's interviews where he keeps on saying that the most remarkable thing about Barca are the fans. You NEED to win, finishing second is NOT good enough. This is clear with them selling 10 first team players, for losing in the semis of the CL

No ,they only got 'noticed' at Arsenal. before Arsenal they were nobodies.

This must be the MOST stupid thing i have read in ages! You dont know football, stop acting like you do. It frustrates me the little you know. LoL

Cesc was a world known before he came to Arsenal, so was Theo.

That is incorrect. Cesc got impatient, he also knew it would be extremely hard and long for him to challenge for 1st team place. With Xavi and Iniesta in the team, he simply wouldnt play. He walked into that Arsenal midfield, says alot about their midfield:rolleyes:

My summer transfers that i predict will be sold.

Marquez
Deco
Ronaldinho
Gudjohnsson
Ezquerro
Oleguer
Henry or Eto - not both
Abidal
Zambrotta
Edmilsson
Dos Santos
Thuram

He got impatient but had Barca been able to sign him to a pro deal when he was 16 he would not be at Arsenal today because they would have kept him.

In his own words he said he knew he would more of a chance for first team football in arsenal.

Also regarding your comment about not being able to sign players under 18 in spain, you can what age do you think Boyan is.

Same as with Merida :)

Barca went as far as sueing Merida...

He wanted to play 1st team footie. That is the reason. Xavi, Puyol, Iniesta, Messi were in his shoes and they were patient. They reaped the rewards.

It wasnt cos they couldnt sign him, he wanted to go.

Today in the papers:

*Remember these are transfer rumours so may or may not go through*

Drogba is looking at movingto to AC milan where he will be re-united with his old manager Jose.
*This would not surprise me as he is always threatening to leave.

Man-U are looking at signing Luis Fabiano from Sevilla the guy has scored 33 goals this season.
*sevilla would be stupid to sell this guy, one of the top players in europe at the moment*

One spanish paper is reporting that Ronaldo will be moving to Real Madrid.
*I dont see this one happening but if we remember, Ronaldo was saying in interviews before the season that he would love to play for Real.I will translate the article and post it laters*

Berbatov though has now been linked to manchester united, barcelona and now chelsea.
*will wait and see where he goes, any club will benefit from having him*

Chelsea apparently confirming Bosingwa signing on Monday. They are also looking to sign Mehmed Suleymani.

@cath21

the world class stars are noticed by scouts at 10-12, the fottball following world at large by 17-19 and bandwagon folk like yourself when they are at a champions league club.

@supstar

I dont think they are allowed to give the players a proffesional contract until 18. the fact that Bojan is playing is because he is under a youth contract and they can use him for the first team, despite not having signed a pro contract. it does depend on patience - arsenal poach and groom (and all luck to them, they inject the football world with new blood)

@everyone

tomorrow is D-Day - then the real rumours start...

what you all think, who is rafa going to sign to repair his leaky ship? (I mean c'mon, Torres and Gerrard do not a world class team make)

Good to see another real footie supporter on the threads!

You half right there, in spain a minor can sign a pro contract but only for a maximum limit of 3 years, barca are looking at extending bojan's contract to 2013 now.

Regarding your question about rafa, i think the problem isnt the team but rafa himself.Way too much rotation in his team selection and too much focus on europe than the premier league.

Giovanni to Man City
Eto might goto Tottenham, and after last weeks deliberate yellow card i dont think i mind him going.

I said pro deal. Bojan is on a youth deal till he turns 18.

Same thing in Italy with Ballotelli at Inter.

They can play them but they can't sign them to professional deals till they turn 18. Which means another club can come in and poach them and only pay compensation till they are on pro deals the club can't keep them since the other club doesn't have to approach the club first they can go to the player first.

@ smokey
Rafa is close to signing Garreth Barry from Villa and we have reportedly agreed terms with Degen, who is a Swiss international player who plays at Right Back.
Theres also rumours that Rafa will be signing Maxi from Athletico and Saviola from Madrid.
David Bentley is another player rumoured to be on rafas wanted list.

Just saw on skysports that chelsea have indeed signed Portos Bosingwa for a massive 20.5 million Euros...about 16 million pounds.
First signing of the season!

If those are his signings it's another season of clinging onto 4th :(

I dont think so man, Barry is a great player and would sort out our troublesome left wing.
I admit the others arent top clas but bentley would be a good signing.Word is that babel will be given a chance upfront next season so our mid will be sollid.
Barry-Mascherano-Gerrard-Bentley
with babel and torres up front that would be pretty decent. We dont have much money this season, only 30 million aparantly but remember we signed Torres,Babel,Mascherano and Skrtel who all cost big money.
Wonder who united will be signing...

We need a quality winger more than anything else.

Barry to replace Alonso is okay. But if Alonso stays where is Barry going to play? LM or LB? I guess he would be solid enough for either of those positions but not quality.

Maxi is good and solid as a wide midfielder but again where's the true quality

Bently is the same again.

Saviola(ROFL) and Degen . The less said the better

*sigh*

Those are some good points there, I don't think that Garry is exactly the kind of player that you are looking for right now.

We need one or two more real quality players to make that last step. Not a whole bunch of solid players.. Unfortunately Rafa has a thing for squad players. If he buys another bunch they'll be 'rotated' out the club in two years time for the next bunch for yet another assault for fourth spot
