Summer Transfers

Drogba Agrees To Barça Accord

The Ivory Coast striker is unsettled and talks of joining the Blaugrana has now made his mind up to find a way out of Stamford Bridge in the next ten days, according to Sport.

Having pulled out of Chelsea's pre-season trip to the Far East with an injury, negotiations are set to continue with Barça ready to make their interest concrete with a firm offer.

Roman Abramovich is loathe to allow his star striker to leave and Luis Felipe Scolari has stated that Drogba is a key member of his squad, but if the player is clearly unhappy then a deal could be done.

Chelsea will take the transfer fee and make an approach for a replacement, but talk of a swap deal involving Samuel Eto'o is said to be not on the agenda.

Drogba is now Barça's priority after the club pulled out of a move to prise Emmanuel Adebayor away from Arsenal and are taking encouragement from the Blues player's agent.

Thierno Seydi told the Star Afrique newspaper only last week that his client was keen on a change of scenery and stated that he expected something to be decided by July 27.

If Chelsea appear to relent in their plan to hold on to Drogba then Inter could well join Barça in the chase for his signature, with José Mourinho still a fan of the powerful forward.

Blaugrana boss Pep Guardiola has told Eto'o that he is no longer part of his plans and the club is scouring the market for a striker worthy of replacing the Cameroonian international.

Dimitar Berbatov has also been strongly linked to the club with a possible swap deal that could see Rafa Márquez move to White Hart Lane being mooted.

Spurs In For Arshavin, Confirm Zenit

The forward rose to prominence this season as Zenit's star player in their UEFA Cup triumph, particularly when proving instrumental in unlocking a notoriously stubborn Rangers defence in the final.

He went from strength-to-strength at Euro 2008 where, despite missing the first two games due to a careles suspension, he lit up the tournament in Russia's final group game as well as their quarterfinal triumph over then-favourites, the Netherlands.

Though a muted performance against eventual Euro winners Spain in the semi-final dulled much of the initial adulation, he is nevertheless a wanted man and, at 27, is looking to move on from his hometown club for reasons beyond the financial.

Seeking a challenge in one of Europe's major leagues, he has made it clear that his preference lies with Barcelona, who he has supported since he was a child. However, the Blaugrana appear to have opted for more of a midfield option with Barcelona's Aliaksandr Hleb - who was also cheaper - and only look like buying a replacement for Samuel Eto'o as a main striker now, if indeed they do make any further purchases.

Rumours of interest from the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal have been banded about the press but refuted by the Russian champions. Everton and Real Madrid were interested prior to the Euros but have since drifted out of sight. Even Milan were mentioned briefly regarding a potential move for the player, but they have since opted for Ronaldinho

The latest club to have been thrown in the frame was Tottenham Hotspur, yet another London club, who may well need to replace club vice-captain and fan favourite Robbie Keane in the coming weeks as the lure of Liverpool looks like proving too great to resist for the Irishman.

In Arshavin, they would have what can only be described as a perfect replacement and, unlike the interest of Chelsea and Arsenal, Tottenham's has been confirmed by Zenit.

Zenit official Konstantin Sarsaniya has now revealed that Tottenham have been in contact though, with Juande Ramos looking to prepare for the possible departures of Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov.

“We have been in contact with Tottenham,” Zenit spokesperson Konstantin Sarsaniya told the Russian press.

“This English club is really interested in acquiring Andrei, but our understanding is that €27 million (£21.5 million) is too high a price for them.

“For Spurs it is unacceptable. They are ready to pay approximately €20 million (£15.9 million) for Arshavin.”

The Russian chief refuted the notion that Manchester City, smarting from losing out on Ronaldinho, have made a move for Arshavin: “I have not heard of this.”

Chelsea deny making world-record bid for AC Milan's ***a

Chelsea have denied tabling a world-record offer for ***a, the AC Milan forward.

Peter Kenyon, the Chelsea chief executive, dismissed reports of a €150 million (approximately £120m) bid for the Brazilian World Player of the Year. "There was no offer made," Kenyon said. "They [Milan] have made it clear that he is not for sale and we will make it clear we have not made an offer."

Adriano Galliani, the Milan vice-president, yesterday dismissed notions that the club would sell their most prized asset or that they had received an offer from the Premier League club. "Ricky [***a] is an untransferable player and Chelsea have never made such a bid," he said.

Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian sports daily, reported today that Roman Abramovich, the Chelsea owner, is prepared to eclipse the €100m that Real Madrid are supposedly ready to pay Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo if he became available.

According to Diogo Kotscho, ***a's spokesman in Brazil, the player would net a chunk of the fee. "The ***a-Chelsea operation would benefit everyone involved," Kotscho said. "For ***a there would be ten per cent of the transfer fee - €15m - as well as a new contract.

"Chelsea is the right team [for ***a]. It's a team that wants to win everything."

Thursday, 24 July 2008 14:29

Liverpool have announced that they have signed Paris Saint Germain's 19 year old French striker David Ngog on a four year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The Highly rated younster will become Rafael Benitez's 6th signing of the season after Andrea Dossena, Phillip Degen, Diego Cavalieri, Vincent Weijl and Emmanuel Mendy all signed deals with the Merseyside club.

The club released this statement on their official website confirming the transfer:

"The 19-year-old becomes the fourth addition to Rafa Benitez's first-team squad after penning a four-year deal at Anfield

Ngog is one of the brightest young talents in French football.

His tally of just one goal from 18 league appearances last term was largely down to PSG's disappointing form – a contention backed up by his prolificacy on the international stage.

The lightning quick forward has scored goals at every youth level for France, including two absolute corkers against England Under-19s last season. " read the statement.

Ngog was in the final year of his contract with PSG and Liverpool launched a bid for the young striker thought to be around the £1.5million mark.

Ngog's arrival will add reinforcement to manager Rafael Benitez's strikeforce following the departure of Peter Crouch for Portsmouth.

All the transfers started out as rumours, so its worth posting them.

Ronaldo saga, people were saying its reporters making up stuff and he would never want to leave...now look what its blown into.

and 1% of them actually happen :)
transfers that started as rumors...
Hleb to Barca
Ronaldinho to Milan
Deco to Chelsea
Dossena to Liverpool
Nasri to Arsenal
I can go on and on and on but like supesta says...ALL transfers start as rumors.
If we only reported on actual transfers there would only be a story every three weeks or so:)

You should know which sources to take seriously and which ones to take with a pinch of salt(NOTW,the scum, tribal football etc)

Eto'o to Uzbekistan :D

Here is a good example of what you think is a joke but has actually been news the whole week.

Eto'o In Uzbekistan To Sign Mega Deal
A club official told this website that they expect the Cameroon international to pen a short-term contract this week to allow him to appear in the Asian Champions League.

The transfer is reported to make Eto'o one of the highest earning players in the world if he accepts and his arrival in Uzbekistan - originally supposed to be just for promotional purposes - has pushed the deal even closer.

"He is is Tashkent and will sign a contract tomorrow," the Kuruvchi official told Goal.com. "He will sign for three or six months, we will have to see about that.

"It is a big signing in the world of football and, of course, for all people in Uzbekistan. He will play in the Asian Champions League and then we will see."

Eto'o has been told that he is no longer part of Barcelona's plans and along with the usual list of big name clubs aspiring to sign him was one unusual offer.

According to reports, the striker was offered the chance to become one of the best paid footballers ever with a contract worth €40m on the table if he chose to go to Uzbekistan.

L'Equipe have quoted the club as denying that the amount is that high, but confirming that a bid had been made and it was now down to the player to choose.

Barcelona Agree Cut-Price Sale?

It is not clear if the deal is done yet, but the Uzbek club seem confident that everything is in place, including a deal with Barcelona.

"The defining moment of the transfer was not money, but the friendly mutual relations between the management of our club and Barcelona," added Kuruvuchi. "The personal friendship between the presidents of the clubs has noticeably lowered the transfer fee.

Eto'o was photographed (above right) disembarking from his flight to Uzbekistan, where he will be given a tour and shown the local club's facilities and what he could expect if he chose to move there.

The primary purpose of the trip was to promote football in the country, we understand, and other Barcelona players could also visit Uzbekistan in the coming weeks.

However, these comments and the claimed agreement throw open the possibility that the Cameroon international could make a short and highly profitable pitstop in between his European club career.

It is an incredible story for a player that has also been linked with Milan, Inter, Arsenal and Chelsea and would see him put the Asian country on the map of world football.

Barca Looking For Replacements

Still on official summer holiday from Barça, Eto'o has stated that he will not discuss what he will do next publicly until he reports back to Camp Nou. Negotiations have been planned and coach Pep Guardiola has hinted that if the player does not leave the club then he would be incorporated into the squad like any other player.

President Joan Laporta has confirmed that Eto'o will be leaving the club and he hopes that the forward will be able to go with his head held high like Ronaldinho.

"Eto'o is expected on the 19th and we will see the available options for him to play for another club. This is a decision of Barça, the technical secretary and the backroom team," he said.

"We have a very good relationship with Eto'o and his representative. We will do the best for the club and the player. We want him to leave like Ronaldinho, with big honours."

Technical secretary Txiki Begiristain is prepared to listen to any club that is prepared to come close to Barça's asking price for Eto'o and is hopeful a deal can be done soon.

"There are many teams interested in him. We hope that he can agree terms with a club he likes and negotiate with that club," he explained.

Fabregas: "Now is not the time to go to Madrid" PDF Print E-mail

Arsenal could end up losing another influential player in the form of Cesc Fabregas who has dropped a huge hint that he may quit Arsenal if they don't start winning trophy's soon.

The London Club has faced an exodus of players in recent years starting with Patrick Viera's departure to Inter Milan, followed by Thierry Henry, Mathieu Flamini and Aleksander Hleb. Emmanuel Adebayor is another unsettled Arsenal player who has repeatedly been linked with a move away from The Emirates.

The young midfielder say's that he is happy with life at Arsenal but admitted that he will leave in the future unless the Gunners start winning competitions.

Last season Fabregas turned down the chance to sign for Real Madrid but the young midfielder admitted in an interview with Spanish paper Marca that there's still a possibility of him joining Madrid.

"I didn't say 'no' to Ramón Calderón.What I said was that now's not the time to join Real Madrid,” Fabregas told Marca.

"To be chased by Madrid, one of the greats teams of all time, is huge."

"Going four years without hoisting a trophy is too much for someone like me," he said.

"This year's favorites for the Liga are Real Madrid," he added.

The Arsenal manager has a difficult task of keeping his star players at the club ahead of the coming season after it was revealed this morning that Newcastle had lodged a surprise bid for Swiss center back Phillip Senderos.

Didnt think it was relevant. The rest of the interview was about Christiano Ronaldo.

Point is the guy sounds like he would be happy to play for madrid...but according to you he only has eyes for Barca. I'd rather go with Fabregas' word over yours Nivek.
