Man Utd report Real over RonaldoManchester United have lodged an official complaint with Fifa over Real Madrid's interest in signing their Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo.
The English champions have reacted angrily to the Spaniards' persistent courting of the 23-year-old.
"On 27 May, United made clear its intention to report Real Madrid if it continued to involve itself in the future of Ronaldo," a statement read.
"Unfortunately, Real Madrid has not kept its own counsel."
The statement went on: "The club feels it has no alternative but to make a formal complaint to the world governing body, which it has done today.
"The precise content and nature will remain confidential."
A Fifa spokesman added: "I can confirm that we have received an official request from Manchester United to look into the matter.
"We have only just received the documents so we need some time to analyse them before we can make any decision."
Article 18 of Fifa's regulations does not stipulate any possible sanction against Real, but does state that one club have to inform another in writing if they are to start negotiations with their player.
However, the rules do not specifically state that the club that owns the player have to give consent.
The two clubs have been engaged in a war of words over the last month - while comments attributed to the player himself have also fuelled the speculation.
Despite being under contract at Old Trafford until 2012, Ronaldo has refused to state publicly and unequivocally that his future lies with United.
The Red Devils' threat of a complaint to Fifa on 27 May came after Real coach Bernd Schuster claimed Ronaldo was their number one summer transfer target.
Following United's victory over Chelsea in the Champions League final, manager Sir Alex Ferguson accused Real of a "lack of morals", insisted his player was not for sale and criticised Schuster and Madrid club president Ramon Calderon for their attempts to unsettle the player.
"Schuster's talking and Calderon's talking," he said. "Real think they can ride roughshod over everyone, but they won't do it with us. They have no moral issues."
And Ferguson drew a comparison with Real's fierce rivals Barcelona as he fought to draw a line under continuing speculation surrounding the 23-year-old's future.
He said: "In terms of great clubs, Barcelona have far better morality than Real Madrid will ever have. Real use this Marca newspaper as a vehicle to unsettle players.
"Do you not think we have had many expressions of interest about our players from big clubs in Europe?
"Real Madrid are not the only club interested in Ronaldo. But the others are not saying so. They don't get into this nonsense.
"Calderon makes that great statement 'slavery was abolished many years ago'. Did they tell General Franco that? Give me a break.
"The simple fact is Cristiano has another four years left on his contract."
United have sold David Beckham, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Gabriel Heinze to Real in recent years, but Ferguson insisted the case of Ronaldo was different.
He said: "Yes, we sold them Van Nistelrooy and Beckham but we did that because we wanted to."
And Argentine defender Heinze was transferred to Real last summer after failing in a public battle to secure a move to United's arch-rivals Liverpool.
Calderon has denied that his club were trying to unsettle Ronaldo, saying: "We aren't going to start a conflict. If a club doesn't want to sell why would we insist they sell him?"
But Ronaldo was quoted last week as saying that he "would like to play for Real Madrid - but only if they are ready to pay what Manchester United ask of them".
Ferguson had previously said that the club would rather have Ronaldo sitting in the stands than sell him to Real.
But on Sunday, Ronaldo said he had not decided about his future, and would not comment again until after the European Championship.
Spurs Enter Race For Santa Cruz - Report
The Paraguayan international is hot property after a stunning debut season that saw him hit 23 goals in all competitions after his ₤3.5million move from Bayern Munich last summer.
The 26-year-old has made his way onto the wish-lists of some England’s biggest clubs, with Manchester United reported to be pondering a ₤12million bid for the towering target-man.
And reports from England claim Spurs boss Juande Ramos has made Santa Cruz his top target this summer, and is prepared to enter a bidding war with Sir Alex Ferguson to land his man.
Santa Cruz could prove an ideal replacement should Dimitar Berbatov decide to leave, as the Bulgarian striker has been consistently linked with the likes of United, Barcelona and AC Milan.
The signing would serve to further highlight the lofty ambitions of Ramos, who has already signed midfielder Luka Modric and has all but secured Mexico star Giovani dos Santos from Barcelona.
Ramsey snubs Utd for GunnersWONDERKID Aaron Ramsey wants to snub Manchester United and Liverpool to join Arsenal.
The Cardiff City forward, 17, is set for a £5million summer move away from Ninian Park.
The Bluebirds have revealed Ramsey prefers a switch to the Emirates but the transfer would not include an option to loan back Ramsey next season.
A club statement said: "Cardiff City were informed on Friday morning that Aaron Ramsey's preferred destination this summer is at the Emirates Stadium with Arsenal.
"We will now continue the dialogue with the Gunners with view to Aaron's move being completed.
"We would like to wish Aaron every success in the top flight."
Olympique Lyon ace Karim Benzema wants a move to Real Madrid.
Marca says Benzema has an agreement with Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas where will remain with the French club for another 12 months before making a move to Madrid next summer.
"I've been a follower of Real Madrid since I was little," said Benzema. "I love Real Madrid, but I think I am still too young to move to a club like this.
"I think I need to get experience and I would like to help Lyon to be the champion of the Champions League. In the future certainly this will be an option."
Eto'o snubs White Hart Lane move
Tottenham's hopes of signing Samuel Eto'o have been dashed after the Barcelona ace admitted he is looking for a bigger challenge.
Eto'o insists he is happy to see out the remaining two years on his Barcelona contract, but he is expected to leave the Camp Nou this summer as new manager Pep Guardiola makes his mark on his inherited squad.
Tottenham are understood to have an interest in Eto'o as boss Juande Ramos prepares for the possible exit of star asset Dimitar Berbatov.
However, Cameroon striker Eto'o - who was on target for his country in their 2010 World Cup qualifying victory over Mauritius on Sunday - has ruled out the possibility of moving to White Hart Lane.
"Tottenham, and I hope the English fans will forgive me, are a club in mid-table and I need more," Eto'o told CRTV.
"I insist that I have a contract with Barcelona until 2010 and I feel great at the club."
However, Eto'o has hinted that he would be keen to join Jose Mourinho's revolution at Inter Milan.
Mourinho is ready to ring the changes at the Giuseppe Meazza this summer and, having attempted to sign Eto'o while in charge at Chelsea, the Portuguese could renew his interest.
"I cannot exclude the option of Inter, but I want to repeat that I still feel I am a Barcelona and that I feel under no pressure," Eto'o concluded.

Last week we reported that Giovanni Dos Santos was close to signing for Tottenham Hotspurs and today the London club announced that they have indeed signed the young Mexican 'wonderkid' from Barcelona FC.
Dos Santos signed a five-year deal with Tottenham after he completed a medical.Tottenham payed Barcelona £4.7m but the deal could rise to £8.6m depending on his success at the club.
Dos Santos
Giovani said: "It is a dream for me to come to a big club like Spurs. I've come here to further explore my qualities and give my all for my new team."
"As a young player I have come to a club where I feel there are many opportunities for me.
"I have been made to feel very welcome since arriving at Spurs and everyone has been very friendly. This is clearly a big club with a lot of ambition, and I can see it growing in the future.
"It is great to see Spurs fans wearing the shirt on the streets of London," he added on the club website, spurs.co.uk.
Samuel Eto'o has stated that he wants to remain at Barcelona, but has not ruled out a move to Inter after telling Tottenham that he needs a greater challenge.
Barcelona Consider Gómez ApproachWith names such as Didier Drogba, Emmanuel Adebayor, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Villa ruled out, the Blaugrana are studying making an official offer after prolonged talks with the German forward's agent.
Txiki Begiristain has met Gómez's representative, Uli Ferber, on various occasions because he also works for Aleksandr Hleb, who the Catalan club hope to sign within the next week.
"Barcelona have asked me about Mario," Ferber told Sports Bild recently.
A move for Gómez may not depend on Samuel Eto'o staying or going because Barcelona want an extra striker like they had when Henrik Larsson was at the club.
While Gómez may only be 22 and may not be satisfied sitting on the bench, the German international, whose father is from Granada, has been a lifelong fan of Barça.
Stuttgart recognise that Gómez is hot property and according to reports would demand a fee of between €40 and €50m in a bid to scare off any would-be buyers.
Barcelona would be ready to offer between €15m and €20m in order to test the club's resolve for the forward that netted 19 goals in 25 games and was named Bundesliga Player of the Year.
Poor Man U can't even attract youngsters anymore. First becoming a selling club, now this tsk tsk.....
