Summer Transfers

Senna Linked With Arsenal

The club have already been heavily linked with Valencia duo David Villa and winger David Silva since the season’s end during what has been a frantic summer transfer window for Arsenal with a string of high-profile players being linked with moves into and out of the Emirates Stadium.

Both Villa and Silva have showed good form during this summer’s Euro 2008 tournament in Austria and Switzerland as Spain made it through to the last four of the competition, where they will face Russia tonight.

But 31-year-old Senna, a holding midfielder, has also impressed in providing a platform for the Spanish flair players to build from and according to reports in the British media he has caught the eye of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
Senna may not seem like the glamorous signing many Arsenal fans are hoping for, but towards the end of last season, as Arsenal’s bid for major honours fell short, a lack of experience was cited as the club’s young players ran out of steam as they games increased in volume.

And with Mathieu Flamini having already joined AC Milan on a free transfer, Senna could prove to be the ideal replacement in the Gunners’ midfield, although suggestions that Wenger is willing to pay up to £10 million for the player may be wide of the mark.

Any move to sign Senna would prove to be a change of direction for French boss Wenger who usually snaps up the continent’s young talent and only tends to offer players over thirty one-year-contracts.

Senna, who is 32 next month, was a major target for Manchester United two summer’s ago, but Sir Alex Ferguson was unable to land his man after Villarreal ensured that they would not let their man depart easily.

The guy takes a lot of weight off the defense with his amazing control of the mid-field.Arsenal would be lucky to sign him.

What do you think will be the next big signing this summer?

Who knows, his had 2 good games maybe that was all he had to offer.

His workrate was low and after the second goal it looked like he wasnt bothered anymore thats not a good sign for a future signing.

Ya he probably will start the next game, seeing as villa looks to be out with a thigh injury.

considering torres was struggling to get a goal whole night, Guiza comes one and makes an amazing touch for that goal in minutes.

Annoys me when they say his name, its pronouced GUI"TH"A

Latest news is Quaresma to Inter is virtually a done deal. Both portugal papers Abola and Ojogo who were right about mourinho has it as done with just a few details to be sorted today.

The details are whether pele or suazo will be inserted in the deal or whether we will pay 30-35 million euros straight with no player involved. If a player will be inserted I am 100% it will be suazo. Mou will want to keep pele.

interesting. Cant believe how awful he was at Barca and what a big name he is now.

He was very young at Barca. He was 18 and Rijkaard had no idea how to help and develop him.

When at sporting he was the more talented player between himself and c.ronaldo but one went to a club were alex ferguson understood how to develop him while the other ended up with rijkaard.

I'm staying at Arsenal - Adebayor

Emmanuel Adebayor has ended speculation about his immediate future by announcing he is staying at Arsenal.

The Togo striker, who scored 30 goals in 48 games last season, has been a target for both AC Milan and Barcelona.

But the 24-year-old said: "I have a good contract, we have a good team there and I'm playing for one of the biggest teams in the world.

"The most important thing for me is to keep on enjoying my football. I'm staying at Arsenal."

AC Milan have made it public knowledge that Adebayor is their main target this summer.

Should talks ever take place over a move, the former Monaco frontman insisted money would not be a factor.

"When I was young I had a dream to be a good footballer and play for a big team," said Adebayor, who was in Vienna with his sponsors.

"I was born in Togo so I never cared about playing for money, my happiness was to play to enjoy myself. That's what I've been doing until now.

"You can see people changing clubs because of money, because they want a change of atmosphere or to get their names in the big leagues. I just play football to enjoy myself. I play because I love it."

One Arsenal player who has already made the move to Milan is Mathieu Flamini.

The French midfielder joined the 2007 Champions League winners this summer after his contract with the Gunners came to an end.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who has also been in Austria for Euro 2008, had wanted to keep his countryman at the Emirates Stadium, but Flamini felt it was in his best interests to leave.

Adebayor thinks that Flamini, who impressed as a holding midfielder last season, will be missed.

"He was one of Arsenal's biggest players," Adebayor said. "He's a good man, a good character and a good footballer.

"But he's made his decision and he's very happy to have signed for Milan. He has all the qualities to become a bigger player than he was at Arsenal."

Still, Adebayor believes Arsenal will thrive without Flamini and hails the team spirit in the camp.

"Everyone is between 21 and 26 years old, we are all the same generation," he said. "We all have the same ideas, we go out together after games to restaurants.

"We all have the same ideas and we all want to achieve something. We have a good boss which is Arsene Wenger. He tries to bring this atmosphere to the dressing room where we feel like brothers and like family.

"Those are the reasons that give us a chance to play the football we play. We play good football, now we look forward to winning trophies."

Johnson not for sale, says Moyes

Everton manager David Moyes has insisted that England striker Andrew Johnson is not for sale.

Speculation has mounted over the 27-year-old's future, with several clubs reportedly interested in him.

However, Moyes has moved quickly to dispel the rumours and said the club have no intention of letting him leave as he remains a key part of his plans.

"Andy Johnson is not for sale - it is that simple," Moyes told the official club website.

"He is a highly-valued member of my senior squad and I look forward to seeing him when the players report back for pre-season training."

Johnson joined Everton in 2006 for £8.6m from Crystal Palace and has scored 22 goals in all competitions from 64 starts.

He only signed a new five-year deal with the club in November 2007 after being linked with a move to West Ham.

Meanwhile, Everton have concerns over the fitness of Tony Hibbert and Joseph Yobo ahead of the new season.

Right-back Hibbert ruptured his medial ligaments in the penultimate game of last season against Arsenal and faces an anxious wait to see if he will require surgery.

"I'm hoping for the specialist to say that I won't need an operation and I just want to kick on from where I am now," Hibbert told evertonTV.

"We didn't realise at first how bad it was and then the specialist said it was bad - but it's just one of those things."

Yobo has revealed that he has been suffering from an ankle knock while on international duty with Nigeria this summer.

The defender said he has been playing through the pain for his country but is confident he will be fit in time for Everton's Premier League opener against Blackburn on 16 August.

"What many people don't know is that I have been playing with an ankle injury," he confirmed.

"I was supposed to rest it but we had crucial games to play and we were short at the back so I was needed because of injuries so I just had to force myself to play.

"The medical team here in Nigeria have been great and they helped me to manage it for this period.

"Now I have to give it the rest it needs so I can be ready for pre-season training with my club."

Tottenham pay £7m for Brazil goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes

Tottenham Hotspur agreed a deal worth £7 million with PSV Eindhoven last night to sign Heurelho Gomes, paving the way for the sale of Paul Robinson, probably to Aston Villa. Gomes, 27, is expected to sign a four-year contract, subject to a medical and obtaining a work permit.

The Brazil goalkeeper was outstanding when PSV defeated Tottenham on penalties in a Uefa Cup tie in March. He had threatened to leave the Dutch club because of differences with the board, despite signing a contract until 2013 in December. “Gomes told me he wanted to grab this chance,” Jan Reker, the PSV general manager, said. “He wanted to move his career forward.”

Gomes started his career at Cruzeiro in Brazil before moving to PSV four years ago, helping them to win four successive titles and reach the Champions League semi-finals three years ago. PSV are negotiating to buy Lee Young Pyo, the Tottenham left back.

Frank Arnesen’s power base at Chelsea has been strengthened by the full-time recruitment of Piet de Visser to his scouting department. The Dutchman, previously an informal adviser to Roman Abramovich in the transfer market, has been taken on to work under Arnesen, the chief scout and director of youth development, taking charge of the identification of young talent in South America and Africa.

De Visser’s move to Chelsea comes after the breakdown of his relationship with PSV Eindhoven, where he was a consultant for several years, taking 22 players to the club, including the Brazilian trio of Romário, Ronaldo and Alex. The 73-year-old left PSV at the end of last season, paving the way for a move to Chelsea, for whom he has worked informally since 2005. De Visser was influential in the signings of John Obi Mikel and Salomon Kalou for

Chelsea and his recruitment is good news for Arnesen, who has failed to produce a single player for the first team in three years.

Uefa debt warning

Uefa has given warning that clubs could be excluded from the Champions League if they are in debt — Chelsea and Manchester United are £736 million and £764 million in the red, respectively. “We will fight very seriously to restrict entry to our competitions from clubs that are in debt,” Michel Platini, the Uefa president, said. “Four or five years from now we have to have sorted the situation out.”

Ronaldinho Will Join Milan – Bronzetti

The Brazilian had been Milan’s primary target a couple of months ago, but the transfer then hit a snag, and it was believed that there was little chance of it being resurrected.

However this all changed when the club’s Vice President Adriano Galliani stated that plans had been made to build a Milan side with Ronaldinho in it.

Bronzetti has now claimed that he believes the transfer will go through, and says that the playmaker is desperate to see it happen.

“Milan have never given up on him and I am the main witness of that because I am in regular contact with Ronaldinho and his brother,” Bronzetti told Radio Radio TV.

“I spoke to the player last night and he told me that he only wants to play for Milan and he wanted me to transmit that to Galliani.

“My impression is that in the end he will join Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, unless some strange things happen.”

Barcelona are said to be demanding €35m, but Milan will only do business if this price falls dramatically.

ronaldhino has really been reduced to a ghost of his former self-that price(35mil.) would have been an insult 2-3 years ago.i hope he resurrescts himself cause he was(and prob. still is)my fav.will be interesting to see the rivals showcase their playmakers against each other-ronaldhino vs.quaresmo.

Ya imagine they offered under 35 mil euro just after he won his 2nd fifa player of the year award, barca would have laughed in their face.In the space of 1 season his price tag has half'd.

I would like to see him get back to his best, though its not going to be at barca.

like i said i'm a whore for players-clubs mean nothing to me and AC was my second team in any way so i might just follow him there...

The french are saying Lampard to Inter is also done. If that's the price I say we got him pretty cheap. But I suppose only 1 year left and the threat of the fifa article 17 played a role.

Anyone know France football and whether its a good source?? I don't know the french papers very well.

Lampard Seal Inter Deal - Report

Sports source "France Football" claims that Frank Lampard's move from Chelsea to Internazionale is signed, sealed and delivered. The England international midfielder has apparently reunited with coach José Mourinho at the San Siro in a deal worth €9m...

The French paper says Lampard has signed a four-year contract with the Nerazzurri after a total of seven seasons of play at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard has been linked with a move to Inter Milan for several weeks now, following the appointment of Mourinho as the new boss of the Italian champions.

Mourinho has been relishing the prospect of reuniting with the England international, having coached him during his time at the helm of Chelsea.

France Football suggests that Lampard will be rewarded with an annual salary of 7.3 million euros at the Giuseppe Meazza.

The London-based club are now on the lookout for a creative midfielder to replace Lampard, with reports suggesting Luiz Felipe Scolari to have found his man under the form of Deco, who is on the transfer list at Barcelona.
