Spurs in talks with Pavlyuchenko

Tottenham have held talks with Spartak Moscow striker Roman Pavlyuchenko, BBC Sport understands.

The 26-year-old Russia international met representatives from the north London club last week, although no deal has been agreed yet.

The £15m-rated Pavlyuchenko impressed during Euro 2008, scoring three goals.

Spurs are also believed to be keen to sign his Russia team-mate Andrei Arshavin, although Zenit St Petersburg claim they have not been approached.

Arshavin, who also shone at Euro 2008, played against CSKA Moscow at the weekend and may yet remain at Zenit this season.

Tottenham boss Juande Ramos has already spent about £45m on transfer fees which has seen forward Giovani Dos Santos, midfielders Luka Modric and David Bentley and goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes arrive at the club this summer.

They recouped some of that money with the £20.3m sale of Robbie Keane to Liverpool, the £3.5m spent by Blackburn for keeper Paul Robinson and the transfers of Steed Malbranque, Pascal Chimbonda and Teemu Tainio to Sunderland.

It has also been widely reported that fellow forward Dimitar Berbatov will leave White Hart Lane before the start of the season.

The Bulgaria international did not appear in the 5-1 defeat of Leyton Orient on Wednesday and also did not feature in Monday's game at Norwich.

Why was i banned?

This is what Im tired of, someone doesnt agree with the mods mates and they get banned. When the hell is this going to stop?

Look at todays example, someone calls me a mofo and is not banned. You get banned because one of the mods mates things you someone else.

One of the most drawn out transfer saga's of the summer looks to be coming to an end with news breaking that Liverpool and Aston Villa have finally agreed on a fee for England midfielder Gareth Barry.

The club's have been in a bitter war of words over the transfer and despite Villa manager martin O'Neill saying yesterday that he is "absolutely delighted" Barry would be staying at Villa Park and "relieved there is resolution and closure to the transfer saga".

It appears however that the move will be completed within the next couple of hours after both BBC and sportsmail have reported that a deal is close to being finalized.

According to sportsmail Villa will receive a £17.5million fee plus right back Steve Finnan in exchange for a midfielder who will fulfill his wish to play in the Champions League this season after all.

To find the money, Liverpool needed to provide the bank with a guarantee that funds to cover the move will be raised during the remainder of the close season.

The transfer has dragged on since May when Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez made it clear that Barry was his top priority.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has revealed will have to sell players to fund the Barry transfer and it is believed that right back Steve Finnan will be included in the transfer.Jermaine Pennant, Xabi Alonso and Andriy Voronin are also likely to be sold in a bid to raise funds.

Jeez they O'Neil just said the deadline had expired and now this. Honestly footballers, agents and managers act like spoiled adolescent delinquents. The way they conduct themselves reminds me of ANC politicians

Also WTF are we going to do with Barry if Alonso stays. Play him on the left? 28 mill to stick him at LM or LB

True, Tottenham wanted to take us to court a few days before selling Keane to us:rolleyes:

It's not 28 Mill...it's about 18 million.

Seems like Liverpool are strengthening their team.
Arsenal bought Nasri
Chelsea bought Deco

Who has United bought?

Not really. If you have a winning team then there's no need. It's like they say - if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it :)

You always need to improve else the others will catch up.

Which is way currently I am rather disappointed in my boys mercato so far. The others have strengthen for the new serie a campaign while we still lack a great transfer.

Mourinho is a great signing and muntari and mancini are good but we still need to sign someone like quaresma or a similiar high profile name. All summer long the press keeps telling us RQ or lampard is close to signing but so far nothing has happened.

No ways!

I dont think their is a club in history since i have been watching football that has not strengthened their team.

Every team needs new blood, new ideas and new tactics to win.

United are not going to win in Europe this season, i am so positive about that - ill even put a wager on it.

Why on Earth would United want to buy more players when they already have a winning combination? The logic behind that is rather fuzzy. No need for United to buy any players now. What ever happened to consistency?

Exactly, Giggs, Scholes, Van der Sar, Neville and Ronaldo are going to be there for the next 4 years. Nothing to worry about.........

yea but im sure they can make another season, nobody is talking about 4 seasons, you can make transfers more than every 4 years :p
