Silva Rejected United Move

News has recently emerged that the Euro 2008 winner is not keen on a move to the Premier League, as reported by the Daily Mail.

His agent, Julio Llorente, has confirmed this exclusively to Sky Sports News that Manchester United made a formal approach for the player and were rebuffed, with the young midfielder thought to be certain to start the season with Valencia.

"Manchester United have made an offer for David Silva, but Valencia have turned it down and that is because of the player's wishes," Llorente said.

"He wants to stay in Spain. We can confirm he will be starting the season in Valencia, and if does ever make a move, it won't be to the Premier League."

It was also revealed that the player is happy in Spain as his family are settled and would therefore only consider a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona, with the latter strongly linked for a big-money move for the 22-year-old. This also rules out the remote possibility that Rafa Benitez was set to raid his former club for the youngster and bring him to Liverpool.

It has not yet been revealed what the nature of United's offer was, but as Madrid's dealings are over for the summer, it will now be just Barcelona left in the running for the versatile prodigy, although Los Che remain as confident as ever they will keep the player at the club.

Official: Baptista Joins Roma

Roma have finally pulled it off to convince Real Madrid to part company with the Brazilian. A number of problems threatened to scupper the deal as neither party could agree on money.

However, that has all been resolved and the Giallorossi can now look forward to having a ‘beast’ in their team.

A statement released by the Italian club reads:

“A.S Roma S.p.A and Real Madrid Club De Futbol would like to communicate that an agreement for the permanent transfer of Julio Cesar Baptista has been reached on Thursday evening.

“Roma will pay Real Madrid €9m in three instalments, the first will be paid when the certificate for the transfer is released by the Spanish FA, the second on July 31, 2009 and the third by December 25, 2009.

“Furthermore, Roma will also pay Real Madrid €1m if the club qualifies for Champions League football while the player is here for a maximum of two seasons, therefore it will be €2m.

“The player has also signed a four year contract.”

Baptista’s addition to the side is a victory for the club, given that they came so close to losing him to other teams that were interested.

The club have also confirmed the player will earn €4.5m per season, meaning they have broken the previous salary cap of €2.5m.

He even thanks barca for showing interest in him.

Silva Thanks Coach And Family

Although he didn’t quite generate the headlines Cristiano Ronaldo did or the way Robinho is doing now, David Silva was still one of the most highly sought after players in the transfer market during the summer, with European giants such as Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona all chasing after his signature.

But the 22 year old put all transfer speculation to bed for good last Wednesday when he signed a lucrative new contract with Los Ché, tying him to the Mestalla outfit for another five years.

While fans and his fellow teammates are both relieved and glad that he stayed, it appears the feeling is mutual. The winger himself has spoken for the first time since putting pen to paper and he revealed his joy to be able to remain in Valencia colours.

“I am very pleased with Valencia. They have treated me very well and for that, I will give everything I have for the club,” he beamed to Marca, before going on to thank his coach, Unai Emery.

“The trainer showed his support and confidence in me from the very beginning and that is something that is very important for me,” he added.

He also reserved special praise for his family, stating that “they have always helped me in everything. Their opinions are important to me because they are always here for me”.

His final “thank you” was saved for Barcelona: “They are a great team and I have to thank them for showing their interest in me,” he concluded.

Chelsea are getting desperate to try and sign Robinho, everyday in the papers here. The guy is said he loves madrid and I dont see him leaving if madrid do end up giving him an imprvoed deal which he wants.

The Brazilian has stated that he has felt ignored over his request for an improved deal and was upset at being mentioned as a posible makeweight in a bid to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

Chelsea have made it clear that want to sign him with two bids and the offer of €6m-per-year and that is now the figure that Robinho is demanding from Madrid to make him stay.

Wagner Ribeiro, the player's agent, believes that his client could stay at the Bernabéu and leave next summer for less as he would only have a year left on his contract, but admits that is only a possibility.

"Robinho has felt slightly ignored in some aspects, but he is happy with his team-mates and with Schuster. He loves Madrid," he told AS.

"(President Ramón) Calderón told us that he would not leave for €100m. They are doing with Robinho what manchester United have done with Cristiano Ronaldo.

"If he stays next tear he would be able to leave for a lot smaller fee than the €32m now on offer from Chelsea."

Madrid's sporting director, Predrag Mijatovic, is set to fly back to the Spanish capital this weekend to hold negotations with Robinho and his agent over a new contract.

On offer will be around €5m-per-season and a five-year deal and that could be enough to tempt the former Santos star, who has never said publicly that he wants to leave.

Jealousy maybe?

The over-priced Arshavin has just got cheaper:

The UEFA Cup holders had been demanding close to €26million for Arshavin throughout a transfer window in which the player became one of the most sought after commodities in European football.

The price tag proved to be prohibitively expensive, as both Spurs and Barça, the player's two keenest suitors, baulked at the fee. Arshavin has been subsequently unhappy at Zenit, to the point where he went on strike in the hope of agitating for a move.

Tottenham manager Juande Ramos has reportedly spoken with the player in an attempt to coax him to White Hart Lane, though Arshavin himself is known to prefer a move to Camp Nou.

However, Barça manager Pep Guardiola insisted this week that the 27-year-old is not the only iron that the Catalan giants have in the fire, and that they are considering other targets.

Nevertheless, Zenit director Konstantin Sarsaniva told Sovetsky Sport that Arshavin could leave the club before the weekend is out.

He said: "There are only small differences left. Zenit have decided to reduce the asking price for Andrei, but exactly how much I cannot say because the negotiations were led by Zenit president Alexander Dyukov

Spurs' Arshavin's Pursuit Over

With the sale of Robbie Keane to Liverpool for £20million, Tottenham Hotspur are not short on cash in seeking a replacement.

Darren Bent though has been in spectacular form in pre-season, but came up short against Middlesbrough yesterday.

Giovani Dos Santos supported Bent, showed signs of promise, but perhaps validated Barcelona's decision to depart company with the Mexican, content in the knowledge that they kept onto their real young talent - Bojan.

Dimitar Berbatov was benched. Surprising to some, predictable to others. With Ramos thinking that with the striker's mind on Manchester, it wouldn't be on the pitch, even though he'd never publicly admit this.

Andrei Arshavin, with his eye-catching and eyebrow-raising performances during the summer's European Championship, was believed to have wanted a move to link up with the lily whites after the Barcelona transfer appeared non-existant. The main hurdle that no London official wanted to jump though was the transfer fee, but since this has dropped down slightly, Tottenham are yet to up their interest.

BBC Sport are reporting that Arshavin's Russian strike partner, Roman Pavlyuchenko was also on Juande Ramos' shortlist but interest in the player has since petered out. While a sensational return for former striker Freddi Kanoute, or Blackburn Rovers' Santa Cruz were also untruths.

Dennis Lachter, Arshavin's agent recently told BBC Sport: "It is my prediction that Arshavin will be a Tottenham player this season."

However, the longer the saga continues, the longer it seems that the only party interested in the transfer was the player and his representatives, with all linked clubs averting their attentions elsewhere.

Adebayor signs new Arsenal deal

Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor has signed a new contract with the Gunners.

The 24-year-old Togo international was strongly linked with Barcelona and AC Milan this summer before announcing he would be staying at the Emirates.

Adebayor, who scored 30 goals in 48 games last season, only signed his previous contract in the summer of 2007 but has negotiated an improved deal.

A statement on Arsenal's website said: "We can confirm Emmanuel has signed a new long-term contract with the club."

The new deal, reported to be worth around £80,000 a week is set to tie the striker to the club until at least 2012.

Adebayor's future seemed uncertain over the summer but at the beginning of August he stated that he wanted to stay at the Emirates, saying: "I can tell everyone that, yes, I will sign a contract.

"I have three years left on my contract and I'm putting two or three years more, so I'm very happy being part of this family."

He was booed by some Arsenal fans for his perceived lack of loyalty during some pre-season friendlies, notably against Real Madrid in the Emirates Cup.

But Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has said that supporters should give Adebayor their backing.

"We have to get behind him and support him," said Wenger. "He is a tremendous force and is of tremendous importance for the team - you want your own fans to be behind him.

"What happened in the transfer period did not always reflect his deep desire and there was manipulation from agents on both sides, but overall I am positive he will recover."

Lol ya, would have been as bad as moody berbatov coming to Barca.

Ya, im glad Berbatov is going to United :D

With Eto and Henry at Barca, Berbatov will warm the bench.

Silvestre set for shock move to Arsenal

article-0-0560E4DB0000044D-935_468x315.jpg

Mikaël Silvestre, the long-serving Manchester United defender, is on the verge of foregoing a testimonial season at Old Trafford to become the club's first player to be sold to Arsenal for 34 years.

Arsène Wenger instigated the move yesterday after learning that the former France international had been holding talks with Manchester City and Sunderland. Silvestre had provisionally agreed a move to City before contacting the club yesterday to apologise and say he could not resist the opportunity to work for Wenger, to live in London and be involved in the Champions League.

Paris St Germain had also offered the 31-year-old a contract but Silvestre informed Wenger last night that Arsenal were his first choice and, if everything goes according to plan, the deal will be concluded in time for him to make his debut at Fulham on Saturday.

The move is expected to cost Arsenal in the region of £750,000 and will represent one of the biggest transfer shocks of the summer given United's usual reluctance to do business with any of their major rivals and the fact Ferguson has never allowed a player of his to defect to Wenger's side. Brian Kidd was the last United player to go in the same direction, in 1974, and Silvestre would have been entitled to a testimonial had he stayed at Old Trafford one more season.
