The bodies of an elderly couple were found in their Summerstrand home on Monday morning, with axe wounds to the head.

Andre and Lydia Saaiman – believed to be in their 70s – were murdered some time between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning.

Police spokesman Warrant Officer Alwin Labans said the handyman arrived at the Rustica Lodge complex in Scott Street, found that the Saaimans’ home had been ransacked and contacted their daughter.

The daughter arrived at the scene and contacted police who, upon breaking down the door, found the couple murdered.

Police are on the scene.

Hectic. RIP

Why murder if your intention is to rob ? These are ****ing clearly disturbed people !

That's odd that the murderer/s would lock the door. Or does it have some mechanism where it automatically locks when closed?

Detectives are still piecing the puzzle together following the double murder in Summerstrand at the weekend.

Yesterday, police revealed that while both had been assaulted, Andre Saaiman, 65, was killed with an axe while his wife Lidia, 69, was strangled.

The couple’s bodies were found inside a locked room in their Scott Street home shortly before 8am on Monday.

Police suspect the motive to be robbery.

Yesterday, police were still trying to track down the gardener who lived on the premises and is a person of interest in the murder.

Police forensic experts worked until late on Monday gathering evidence inside the house.

Police spokesman Warrant Officer Alwin Labans said: “We have discovered that she [Lidia] appears to have died from suffocation after being strangled with a cable tie.”

The postmorten will be carried out today.

Items stolen from the house include the couple’s cellphones, firearms and money.

On many doors of the old/round knob design you just rotate the lock and then pull the door closed, no need to use a key. Could also have had a secondary deadlock that works the same way.

The elderly Summerstrand couple who were murdered in their home at the weekend died more than 24 hours before their bodies were discovered on Monday morning.

This was revealed yesterday after the postmortems of Andre Saaiman, 65, and his wife Lidia, 69.

Andre was hacked to death with an axe inside a room in their Scott Street home, while Lidia appeared to have been strangled with a cable tie.

Police spokesman Warrant Officer Alwin Labans said the preliminary findings showed the couple had been killed late on Saturday night.

“Other forensic evidence gathered on the scene has been sent away for testing,” he said.

A missing gardener, whose name and details are still unknown to police, is considered a person of interest in the case.

“Yesterday, police were still trying to track down the gardener who lived on the premises and is a person of interest in the murder. “

Person of interest, Feck that, find him and squeeze his balls in a vice, then hear him sing like a canary.

Person of interest, Feck that, find him and squeeze his balls in a vice and make him drink his own urine, then hear him sing like a canary.
