Hey

I've just installed a SUNIX PCI-to-PC Card and plugged in my Huawei E620 data card. The manufacturer of the former confirms both are compatible and so do other users on the MyADSL forum. However, the Windows XP automatic installation procedure reports an error. In the Windows Device Manager the "NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller" shows up with a yellow exclamation mark. Under the Device status section, the message "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" appears.

When I go into the dash, it reports "Detecting data card" and then "Data card invalid".

I've tried reinstalling the data card software, deleting and reinstating the USB device drivers, checking all relevant settings in the BIOS, etc. Nothing seems to work. The SUNIX card didn't come packages with any specific drivers. Do any of you have ideas on how to proceed? I'm sure I can't be the first user in the world to encounter these hassles.

Thanks so much!!!

I'm not sure about the above

Can anyone else shed some light on the above?

I have a Sunix card working with my E620.

I have Windows XP SP2, no additional drivers were required for the Sunix card.

How old is your PC? I've had problems with old PCs and high speed PCI cards. I think that has something to do with the cards being PCI version 2.1 and the motherboard not.

You might have a resource conflict, try moving the Sunix card to a different PCI slot, or adjust IRQ assignments in the CMOS setup.

You should have no unknown devices or yellow exclamtion marks in Device Manager before you even attempt to install the E620.

I also had the same problem with my Sunix Adapter with my PC running XP SP 1, I installed SP2 with all the updates etc. and it worked 100%.

MTN DD & ginggs & coppersa, thanks for posts. The motherboard is only two months old so that shouldn't be the problem. The machine functions perfectly with just the Sunix card in the machine, but as soon as I add the E620 then it says that NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller "...cannot start". The installation error only appears when the E620 is inserted. I'm pretty sure I'm running Windows XP with SP2, although probably without the latest updates.

Interestingly, I cannot actually find any IRQ/USB settings in the BIOS.

jb007za, just a thought, have you tested your card in a laptop or tried any other card in your SUNIX adapter perhaps? There is always a possibility that the card might be faulty or requires a firmware update?

hey coppersa, wish it were that simple. data card works like a charm in my laptop. just out of interest, i tried another pci-to-pcmcia adapter in my desktop machine and had the same problem. so, i am sitting with two at the moment. thought the second one (Sunix) would be sure to work as a few other users on this forum suggested that they didn't have any problems. just my luck :(

I bought the Mecer PCT1010R and it works great... no need for installing extra drivers etc. They sell for about R300.

That model number is identical to that of the Sunix card, I am wondering if they're not one and the same. What does the Windows device manager report your card as?

Mine appears as a Ricoh R/RL/RT/RC/5C475(II), R5C520 or Compatible CardBus Controller.

I also have the Mecer with exactly the same problem ("NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller" error). The Mecer is indeed also a Ricoh chipset and reports the same PCMCIA card in device manager as the Sunix.
I tried the Mecer with E620 in another machine and it worked fine. Both machines are brand new with new AMD motherboards, Win XP SP2 + all the lates updates. So it's still a mystery to me as well. I'd love to hear from anyone who might solve this one.

Good day,

I've escalated this and will provide feedback ASAP

Thanks MTNDD

Glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing these frustrations. Still haven't found a solution yet. Interestingly, I'm also running an AMD Athlon XP configuration with SP2 installed.

Tests have been done this side with success and with failures, with failures we’ve had to re-image the machines once we’ve done that it worked fine so I’m not sure if it could be something in the windows config that might be causing your problems but I’ve taken some where I’ve had no problems what so ever.

I have two machines working with Huawei E620 HSDPA cards in Sunix PCMCIA to PCI adapters. The one is an AMD Athlon XP (Socket A) motherboard about two years old, the other is a brand new AMD Athlon 64 (Socket AM2) motherboard. Both have Nvidia chipsets, Windows XP SP2 plus updates.

PCT1010R and E620 Problems

I experienced a similar problem with the Mecer PCI to PC card adapter on an AMD Sempron Machine with the Huawei E620 3G data card. After a bit of trouble shooting with the help of my Dell laptop. The Mecer PCT1010R does not work reliably/properly with the 32 bit card.

Resolved the problem by changing the adapter. Try the elan P111, much more reliable (It comes with proper driver disk). Available from MicroD (Pty) Ltd, ask for Andrew Dare tell him Armada Consulting referred you.

I hope this helps.

Hi guys

Sorry for the delayed response. My motherboard is a BIOSTAR TForce 6100-939 with an NVidia chipset.

Thanks!
