Can anyone shed some light on my situation. I have been on solar for about 6 months and barely used any grid supply and everything has been working great. However since about 3:20am this morning my grid consumption jumped up to over 20kw(!)... I have only a 12kw inverter and my breakers should not be able to handle that kind of power. I have a prepaid meter and my units are not dropping, my batteries are filling at the usual rate powered only be the solar I am generating. Any idea why the grid consumption would reflect like this?

There is a fault somewhere, I'd just contact the installer. It's likely not actually drawing that power.

Maybe a bad CT? But never known those to fail like this before.

What does it show when you cut the main incoming breaker?

Can you try and reset the system by switching off and on?

Just make sure you know the sequence how to do it.

Check the CT ratio in the advanced settings. It should be default 2000: 1

I did contact installer, he suggested I switch to mains while he remotely updates the inverter, then we will check again. Update in progress...

After the updates the issue persisted. Installer spoke to Sunsynk and they believe it is a CT coil issue, perhaps a loose connection. They will be on site tomorrow to check it out, fingers crossed!

Interesting. Please keep us posted.

You mean 20kW... Very different to 20kWh

I switched off the main municipal breaker last night and it dropped to 0w on the inverter display/app. Left it like that waiting for the installer to check it out today.

Surely the only connections are inside the inverter, how does that happen?
Yeah what a mystery... definitely no interference from living organisms so maybe it was a questionable connection from the start and a breeze moving through the garage disturbed it? We do get some heavy winds here in PE 🤷‍♂️
