I think you misread what he said. Regardless, I tested Navigon this morning in airplane mode and it worked fine.
Your statement that there are no offline navigation apps is simply not true...
It means 'for the win' but the sentence ended with the word 'though' indicating that the poster was highlighting a contrasting point...
"ftw though" - he still prefers Google nav over it (Even if it is not 100% offline).
/ Don't get me wrong, 100% offline Google Nav would have been preferred (from my experience you need a data connection to initiate Google Nav -Once it is done you can go offline.). But there are 3rd party Nav apps that can work 100% offline.

But, it does pack a punch in terms of price as an app.
My last GPS cost me R300 (it was on special). I 'threw it away' when I bought my Lumia. Lumia works way better. Alright, not threw it away literally. Its somewhere in my house. I don't know what to do with it.
Ah, thanks for the input. Haven't held a 520 in my hands, so don't have anything real to compare with but what's on paper (which can be misleading).
My 720's red. Couldn't get yellow, and wasn't a fan of black.

I will admit though, it really isn't anything to write home about at all. It is incredibly basic and they try to charge you for extras like traffic and speed cameras.

Nokia Drive is really quite impressive from my experience.

I haven't had the chance to use this as I really and truly don't know anyone with a new Nokia.

As other posters have said, I meant I prefer Google Nav to any other navigation even though it is not pure offline.
I especially love it on my galaxy tab 10.1 with the satellite views overlayed. now that is awesome. Getting an aerial view of the roads / buildings as you drive through.
I played with nokias version of maps on my n95 many years ago. I think it was called Ovi Maps then. Not sure what its like now though...

Yes, it does, but no traffic cams in South Africa (bummer). Also free voice guidance. Only the traffic info requires you to be online.
Love Drive+, free offline voice guidance anywhere in the world. One of the primary reasons I chose Nokia. Only thing I really want is the option to be able to manually input/import traffic cams.

Yes, it does.
There is Nokia Drive and then Nokia Maps. Live traffic is on Nokia Maps - live traffic is updated every 3 minutes. But, thats for WP7.
On WP8 I'd imagine it is called 'Here Drive' and 'Here Maps', which are more advanced than Nokia Drive and Maps on WP7.

I've got the Speed Cameras app on my Lumia from WP Store, which uses either GMaps, Nokia/Here Maps or other maps depending on what you have (or prefer?). You can input speed cameras. Works in South Africa.

I tried it soem time ago, but did not like it. It's a seperate app to Drive+ and thus difficult to use Drive+ whilst still getting a warning of nearby cameras.

It's just a very fast, accurate and well featured GPS system. Offline nav, traffic, voice guidance. I've never encountered an error with using it.
I've just installed this app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=idv.xunqun.navier.premium&hl=en as my primary navigation system. It is a heads-up-display navigation system that I thought was going to be a gimmick but is actually incredibly useful. The HUD works flawlessly although I'm yet to test it during the day.
The beauty of Android is I can now go and beg someone to write code for Tasker that will automate things for me once in the car, so that when it is out of range of my network, it switches on the HUD navigator, switches on bluetooth audio and connects to the car, and opens up my music app and starts playing randomly, as well as switching on Google voice so that I can control it hands-free.
I'm yet to see this sort of automation on any other operating system, although admittedly I don't do much digging around other operating systems...
If you were on windows phone you wouldn't even have to beg me to code that for you. Consider it payment for all the cooking advice you share
