Super legacy Mechanical keyboard converter

Hi there

So I'm looking for an old AT to ps/2 or usb converter for an old super legacy keyboard I have

Just for interest sake this is an old chicomy kb-5191 keyboard

Boy.... I might just have one of those lying around from when I did something similar. It didn't really work very well though. The old mech keyboard are missing modern keys and stuff, and that thing was monstrously huge. Better off getting a 2ndhand modern mechanical keyboard in my opinion. But I'll check when I go home.
 
So you guys say it' a waste of time this keyboard. I already have a Quickfire rapid-I

The other option is to open the keyboard, remove the existing wire & replace it with a whole ps/2 cable.
 
And while you have it open you can remove all the keycaps, was them & the plastic covers with some warm water, sunlight soap & a nail brush. Blow the keyboard assembly out with pressure air at the garage & brush dust out with a paintbrush.

If you are still keen to do more you get rid of that yellowed colouring by giving it the retrobright treatment ;)
 
I washed keycaps myself on the old IBM keyboard, but I suggest to not use compressed air on mechanical switches. Rather use a brush and slightly wet piece of cloth.
 
I own one IBM keyboard, but I wrote about this Chicony model.

Yes it's the old cherry mx switches. I must say the feeling in this keyboard is a bit weird compared to my new Mechanical keyboard but you guys don't see the point in using this keyboard. It's like telling someone that likes old cards to just ditch the old car cause the new models have better features, lower fuel consumption and so on. It's almost the same and you don't get that many old mechanical keyboards anyway.

No look I fully get it. I also did try to go that route. It's just not very practical. The one I was using had no Windows key for one thing. And it was huge and hideously ugly, and the clack sound was distractingly loud. I think I had some other issues to do with the compatibility even with the cable in. If you have a decent keyboard now, and the Quickfire is definitely decent, you'll probably end up going back to it after a couple of weeks.
