Cape Town - The Chiefs maintained their unbeaten start to the 2017 Vodacom Super Rugby season in beating the previously unbeaten Hurricanes in a wet Hamilton on Friday.

As it happened: Chiefs v Hurricanes

The Chiefs won 26-18 after leading 10-6 at half-time.

The Chiefs scored two tries through lock Brodie Retallick and wing Toni Pulu. Fullback Damian McKenzie added both conversions and four penalties.

The Hurricanes, who were hurt by two first half yellow cards, scored two tries of their own by scrumhalf TJ Perenara and wing Julian Savea, while flyhalf Beauden Barrett added a conversion and two penalties.

The Chiefs picked up four points for their victory and took the lead atop both the New Zealand Conference and Australasian Group.

The Hurricanes left empty-handed.

Cape Town - The Brumbies cashed in on a Force side reduced to 14 men late on to pick up their first victory of the 2017 Vodacom Super Rugby season.

The Brumbies won 25-17 after leading 10-7 at half-time.

The Brumbies scored four tries through wing Henry Speight, flyhalf Wharenui Hawera, centre Kyle Godwin and replacement hooker Robbie Abel. Hawera was also on target with a conversion and penalty.

The Force, who led with a little more than 10 minutes to go, were reduced to 14 men when lock Ross Haylett-Petty was yellow-carded by referee Rohan Hoffmann.

They did however managed two tries of their own, thanks to hooker Heath Tessmann and wing Chance Peni. Flyhalf Jono Lance added both conversions and penalty.

The Brumbies picked up four points for their victory, while the Force left empty-handed

Well done to the Brumbies for finally getting a win.

They lost by such close margins in the previous two weeks.

Chris Boyd 'grumpy' with ill-disciplined Hurricanes as Chiefs win third straight NZ derby

Hurricanes head coach Chris Boyd berated his team's poor discipline and error count as the Chiefs won their third successive New Zealand derby.

"We're grumpy because we were ill-disciplined and gave away a couple of yellow cards," said Boyd, who conceded the Chiefs deserved their victory.

"One was a bit tough, I thought. One was fair. We made too many unforced mistakes and we couldn't build pressure as a result. The Chiefs are the Chiefs, and you know what you're going to get.

"Clearly we weren't disciplined enough, according to the referee, so that was disappointing."

Chiefs No 8 Michael Leitch faces suspension after being cited for tackle on Ricky Riccitelli

The Chiefs No 8 was sin binned by referee Brendon Pickerill in the 78th minute for a high shot on Hurricanes hooker Ricky Riccitelli.

Leitch is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4(e), which is dangerous tackling of an opponent, and the citing commissioner deemed the challenge worthy of a red card upon further review.

The Sanzaar foul play review committee will assess the case on Sunday.

Blues flanker Steven Luatua, who was sent off in the Chiefs' 41-26 round two win over the Blues, was this week suspended for four matches for what was deemed a similar offence.
