When I look at our rugby compared to NZ teams, the best word I can find to describe this is... Amateurish

Every year I'm hopeful that SA rugby is making a comeback and every year we appear to be losing inches as opposed to gaining them.

Truly disappointing. Crusaders next week looks like another L on the way.
Just hope things do not spiral out of control. Warren is badly needed back......

Wonder what excuses the coaching staff will have this time. I think SA coaches all have a manual called "101 Excuses why we lost and what we learned from the game " But by the middle of the season they have used up all the excuses

Did the kick off time change for the Lions game? I thought it was only starting in like 20 minutes? :wtf:

Was hopeful for another pushover try at the end for the Lions. Would've given me my seven point margin. Meh...

Bummer, I felt a lot better a few weeks ago, but seems the teams are getting together better and all our SA teams are falling apart so to speak. Still positive glimpses but we need better decision making on field.

OT:

Japan has announced that their national development squad, up-and-coming players and Sunwolves (not going on Super Rugby tour to New Zealand) will play the Highlanders A (April 14), Blues A (April 20) and Hurricanes A (April 26) as warmup games going into the mid-year tests. All ‘training’ squads, but it is a great idea to create depth, continuity and to maintain conditioning.

Lood de Jager has been ruled out of the Bulls clash with the Stormers with a calf strain. In addition to no RG Snyman, they will have to field an all new lock combination.

Might risk a punt on the Stormers for this game...

Eish, the Lions crocked list is growing!

Dyantyi out of Crusaders clash

The Emirates Lions disappointing trip to Buenos Aires has claimed an injury scalp as the promising young winger Aphiwe Dyantyi has been ruled out of Sunday’s Vodacom Super Rugby clash with the Crusaders.

Dyantyi, who has been the find of the season thus far for Swys de Bruin’s side, has injured his pectoral muscle and according to the team medical report, has been ruled out for up to six weeks.

The winger is second on the season try-scoring list, second in the clean breaks category and also features in the top 10 of the defenders beaten in the competition thus far, showing his worth to De Bruin’s side thus far in the competition.

But the Lions are able to welcome back the likes of Ross Cronje and Andries Ferreira this week, both of whom missed the trip to Buenos Aires with Cronje recovered from a rib injury and Ferreira from a back spasm over the past seven days. Jacobie Adriaanse is also fit again from a badly sprained ankle and is available for selection.

The Lions do have two other concerns though, as Robert Kruger sustained a concussion but is expected to be available for selection this week and midfielder Howard Mnisi is struggling with a “knee contusion” and should be available for selection.

Reds prop off the hook despite horror tackle at Newlands

As is the norm, only South African players are guilty of dirty play. Conraad van Vuuren's attempted/missed high tackle got him 3 weeks. The successful shoulder charge from Topou doesn't warrant a red card
The only consistency I've noticed is that whenever Stefan Terblanche is part of the review panel a South African will cop a ban.

Eh, that's a regular no arms/shoulder charge. Would normally get penalty and talking to or a yellow in game.

Delight For Japan U-19s At Donnybrook As They Claim Ireland Scalp28 March 2018, 04:47 pm ::Match Report By EditorThe Ireland Under-19 team (sponsored by PwC) suffered a surprise 40-24 defeat at the hands of Japan at Energia Park this afternoon, with the visitors gaining ample revenge for their 40-29 loss at the same venue last Saturday.

but to take note,

Ireland U-19 head coach Tom Tierney made twelve personnel changes to the side that started the opening game, and his charges found themselves behind inside five minutes when Moala crashed over for a try which Itsuki Kodama converted.

...

Speaking afterwards, Ireland U-19 team manager Barney McGonigle said: "We looked on this game as a chance to look at some more players and, while disappointed to lose, It did give the coaches a great opportunity to see more talented Ireland U-19/U-20 development players in action against international opposition.

"We knew we were playing a very talented Japanese team and they did deserve their win. These clashes over the Easter period are great from a development point of view and we look forward to more in the years ahead.

I don't know how many changes the Japanese side has made, they don't really report on these things.

On a positive note, the Japanese National Development Squad touring New Zealand alongside the Sunwolves have some very good players amongst their ranks including those training with the Crusaders and Highlanders. It is said that the two Japanese sides, Japan A and Sunwolves, may interchange players between the games on the three-week tour. All in all, this is good, though this may not necessarily win them games in New Zealand, they will develop depth and continuity which they sorely lack now.

The Japanese National Development Squad is also packed with Japanese talent and schooled in Japan islanders which I hope to see bolster the Sunwolves side in the long run.

Grief, Gardner has already had some shockers. Early tackles, tackles off the ball, etc. TMO having his own bad call with a knock on...
