Anybody else having super slow adsl, I have not capped any of my accounts and it is crawling along at both local and international browsing, reminds me of dialup
the fact that we have 'local' and international is a ludicrous situation! Not to mention that I am stuck paying four time what it costs in the UK/USA and Aus for what is effectively a dial up speed!
In the Uk Virgin are now offering up to 24MBS for less than tea and cake at out local coffee shop. beanz Cafe (the most amazing cakes btw all handmade) anyway good food aside the appalling service at high prices is someting you all seem to have accepted over the years. I started to be a part of this community web site a while ago and I am sad to see you all have stopped going to your Local Hellkom oops I mean telkom and complaining.....
for hevens sake people start writing letters, email the avaaz people and ask them for help. The more people world wide know we have this firewall around South Africa the restricts freedom of expression the better off we all will be.
As the advert sayz, it cant all be just a nd c now can it???? how are we going to COPE with the democracy when we cannot trust what are seeing is actually the current web page...
I heard through the grape vine the other day that this government is intending to increase the censorship by displaying web pages that have been censored for 'inflammatory content' and only displayed once the 'incorrect information' is altered.
I do hope this is not true, it probably is not but it might well be as the source has been right on the money so far even though I think it is just gossip, and hearsay as they say is not admissible in court but who knows with the government trying to control who is in charge of zdna and trying to have complete control this is the logical next step to their 'master plan'.
Here is a quote from the proposed rules ""If the Minister is of the opinion that this is in the interests of
> the Company, the Minister may, by notice in writing, remove any person
> from the office of Director. The Minister shall consult the Board and
> Members in determining the interests of the Company, and provide
> reasons for such removal. The Board and Members shall be free to
> persuade the Minister to adopt a different approach including
> cancellation or delay of the removal."
>
> Our proposed compromise:
> We propose that Para 14.5.3 should contain the following proviso in
> some form or another:
>
> "If a two-thirds (2/3rds) majority of the members (present in person,
> by proxy or through an authorised representative at a duly convened
> and quorate general meeting, or in the manner provided for in article
> 11.6) vote against the removal of the Director/s then the Minister's
> decision cannot be regarded as being in the interests of the Company."
>
> Reasoning:
> From the MOC's side, the 2/3rds majority sets the bar high enough so
> as to ensure that the membership must be significantly committed to
> their objection in order for it to be of any effect. From the
> membership side, it sets an objective and inclusive standard as to
> determining what is deemed to be in the company's interest.

the point here is anyone can join this forum and as it is supposed to be for the people by the people not just the baas/boss I hope you all will get more active in protecting what is ours by right - cheap or free internet access, freedom to look at what ever the hell we want to when we want to and as often as we want to without being told - no you naughty silly person you are only allowed to look at local stuff from now on only only the Telkom site at that.
We should have the right to unlimited access and by becoming involved in this process is one way to ensure that the ministers cannot use this as a club to beat us all over the head with it.
again sorry for the slightly off topic diversion as it is directly related to you getting the proper high speed internet access that is actually possible now!!
