About SuperDrive Firmware Update 2.1
The SuperDrive Update improves readability of certain CD media. The updater application will be installed in the /Applications/Utilities folder. Please follow the instructions in the updater application to complete the update process.

I flashed my 'SONY' Apple Mac Pro drive into it's region free NEC version the day the computer arrived and
got DVD-RAM capability plus I can watch Regions 1-8 .

Which drive is the update designed for? I guess the drives work properly now - no more messing around trying to find media that writes at the advertised speed ...

Never had problems with the Mac Pro drive, it works with Taiyo-Yuden, Verbatim, Fuji, Sony, Imation, HP and others.... Is the Macbook (Pro)
drive problematic then?

No problems with mine.

So I downloaded it and bummer I dont need it... Oh well I am still so use to XP with the everyday updates that I just want to update. lol

It isn't (wasn't) that it didn't work at all - it just didn't do the business at any speed. i.e. picky about media, unless you knew where to buy Taio Yuden or Apple branded media.
