Supreme Commander - User feedback please

I've completed the UEF campaign and am halfway with the Cybrans now - and I must admit the game grows on me. Halfway through the UEF campaign I gave up and felt that the game didn't pull me in enough - but when one gets to the final stages of a campaign it becomes hectic fun. The last UEF mission was really hectic and one realy feels good when the job is done in the end. It's different from other RTS games and one has to approach the game with a new mindset. In the beginning the lack of graphic detail irritated me (not close enough to the action), but once I saw the magnitude of the gameplay in later stages I started to understand and appreciate the reason for playing with icons instead of detailed units (like in C&C and Act of War). The game becomes a screen full of icons - for good reason. The focus moves to strategy and tactics instead of "exploding art".

I would like to buy C&C but im worried if the story follows from the previous instalments

Agreed, but I do sometimes feel like you've cheated out of enjoying the nitty-gritty tactical action, as your attention so focused on the strategic situation.

A few times I'm massing up my forces for the final kill on the opposing commander without realising some longer range units are aleady within striking distance. So before you can zoom in to participate in the final win the other commander detonates and the level is over.

So true. This is a game for generals - not majors. One looks at the whole battlefield instead of a contact zone - making the individual unit insignificant in a way. It's about the big picture in SupCom - where the individual unit is but a small component of a bigger "machine". Michael Crighton's book "Prey" comes to mind.

:< lo there any SA players playing online on the gpg server

Ive been playing the game for about 15 hours now. Its slowly growing on me. It takes a while to get used to the way they do things, but the sheer scope of the game is pretty cool.

It doesnt look like there is a unit limit.

There is a unit limit ... be careful as it hits you when the map is expanded and you are stuck with the wrong solution in the wrong places.
