Hey peeps

With Eskom implementing their wonderful new load shedding i'm looking for the following:

Something that will protect my PC(especially my mobo) against sudden powercuts..

Something thats has enough power to enable me to switch off PC normally..

Any help?

The obvious answer would be a small / cheap UPS.. a 600va should be sufficient to keep the pc running for several minutes (so that you can do a clean shutdown)

The UPS will also protect the PC from power dips, and spikes.

A surge protector will obviously protect you from surges, but is not going to keep the pc running...

Edit: cyberarmy beat me to it!

:p Do you think plug the UPS to surge protector is a good idea? Would it double up the 'protection' or will make things worse. Just a though as my Belkin Surge protector suggests shall not daisy chain surge protectors together.....:o

not really, most of the cheap UPS's dont protect from dips & spikes. They connect your pc straight to the wall, only switch to battery when power is cut. A active UPS or line conditioner continuasly feeds your computers power through its battery while it is constantly recharging, so the ups takes the dips & spikes not your pc :) They are a lot more expensive though
