Hey people :)

Here is the problem that I am having:

I have the HDPVR, PS3 and Xbox all going into the TV (Sony EX400) each with their own HDMI cable.

For the audio I have one single Optical Digital cable (Toslink) running from the Optical Digital "out" of the TV into the Optical Digital "in" of the home theater system (a Samsung HT-Z210) which supports DTS, Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro-Logic II.

The amp plays in surround sound on the PVR and Xbox, but not with the PS3. In the PS3 Audio menu I have selected DTS, Dolby Digital and the stereo modes. DVD's and Blu-rays only play in stereo for some reason, and stereo videos on the hard drive have no sound whatsoever. However, if I plug the PS3 using the Optical cable directly into the amp, it works perfectly.

Any ideas

Thanks :)

Silly question but you got the PS3 configured for audio over HDMI? If so, maybe it's a problem with the way the PS3 sends audio over the HDMI cable, perhaps the TV is having difficulty processing PS3 audio to send over optical.

Hey man, yeah it is set up to transmit audio over HDMI.

If I set it up to transmit over digital, then plug it directly into the amp, it works perfectly

Not sure if this makes sense, but can your TV "passthrough" the digital signal?

In other words, you are sending a Dolby signal to the stereo television, then does the tv send the signal it receives back via optical as Dolby?

Well, I take it since your XBox works, it can... but then again, is your XBox connected via HDMI like the PS3?

There are quite a few factors...... how is everything connected and to what using which cables?

Hey TBlaar.

Each device is connected using a separate HDMI cable into separate HDMI inputs on the TV.

There is just one Optical cable going out the TV into the amp.

The amp plays everything in DTS or Dolby Digital or Prologic (depending on whats playing) except for the PS3, which does sweet bugger all....

I don't know the makes or anything of the HDMI cables...
