Johannesburg - A suspected poacher was shot and wounded while two others escaped after a rhino was killed at the Kruger National Park on Monday, a spokesperson said.
Parks spokesperson William Mabasa said rangers found the rhino early on Monday morning.
"It had been shot," he said.
Rangers then searched for poachers.
"During their search they came across three men who were trying to flee.
"There was an exchange of fire, resulting in one of them being shot, while the other two disappeared."
The incident occurred between Punda Maria and Shingwedzi Camp.
Mabasa said they were wearing rangers uniforms as a disguise.
"The rhino still had both its horns on."
The suspect was taken to hospital and would appear in the Saselamani Periodical Court once he had recovered.
