I have a Gigabyte GA-7IXE4 motherboard which suddenly stopped working and gave me only a blank screen. After searching I found a replacement and got a ASRock K7VM2 board. After some configuring I finally got it to start up only to get the same blank screen again. I took out the ram, powered it up and got three beeps indicating the POST and board was working correctly. I then decided to remove the proceessor and to my surprise not one single beep at all. The old board does not make a single beep either even if I remove the ram.
Would I be correct in assuming that the first board needs the processor to do the POST and that they won't make a beep when there is no processor? I initially thought that it might be the BIOS that was funked, but now I suspect that it might be the processor since this is the only component that is the same across the two boards. Anyone have any idea on this?
