I have a Gigabyte GA-7IXE4 motherboard which suddenly stopped working and gave me only a blank screen. After searching I found a replacement and got a ASRock K7VM2 board. After some configuring I finally got it to start up only to get the same blank screen again. I took out the ram, powered it up and got three beeps indicating the POST and board was working correctly. I then decided to remove the proceessor and to my surprise not one single beep at all. The old board does not make a single beep either even if I remove the ram.

Would I be correct in assuming that the first board needs the processor to do the POST and that they won't make a beep when there is no processor? I initially thought that it might be the BIOS that was funked, but now I suspect that it might be the processor since this is the only component that is the same across the two boards. Anyone have any idea on this?

I had the same problem last week. I bought new board, processor and memory. First two from the one supplier and the memory from another supplier. It boiled down to the fact that the memory was incompatible with the motherboard. One was MDT DDRII 533 and the other Transcend DDRII 533. The MDT was incompatible.
If you have a spare chip lying around test that first.

Hey there.

Its true that when u remove the RAM from the PC (in fact all PC's), that it will give u a beep code (if the mainboard is still working 100%).

The PC won't give u a beep code when you remove the CPU, as the CPU also forms part to process the POST.

For me the problem that ur experiencing on ur PC, might be a faulty display card. You can also check the memory of the PC. IF ur using 2 or more memory modules, try and use only one at a time, and see if theres any difference in the stability of the machine. If it is the case, do a BIOS update, and c what its doing.

If possible, can u please specify me with more detail on your PC.

Good Luck
