SUV recommendations

Nah the Honda BR-V is pure quality so I bought it instead

This.
Been in the market since last year Nov. Yassis there is k*k out there.
Drove the 2015 RAV4, 2018 HRV, and a few other cars.
3 weeks ago, I bought a (2nd hand) car from an AUTOMARK dealer, expecting the Automark promise. Sent a friend to look at it and he found small issues that the dealer promised to sort out before they deliver it.
When it arrived, yoh, I was livid, 3 x doors resprayed (badly), missing tonneau cover, missing tool bag, non oem spare key, clips and parts in the engine bay were brand new (evidence of an accident), etc etc.
I sent it right back and got a full refund.
Search is still on. Out of all the cars though, the HRV drove the nicest.
Really wish i could find a Diesel auto CRV though.

Yeah the HRV is nice. Not enough boot space though. The BR-V is amazing in every aspect. The drive is smooth, today ,driving to CPT yielded me a usage of 5.7l to a 100km's(keep in mind little to no wind) lane keep assist is amazing, adaptive cruize control is amazing. I could have bought the HR-V but the BR-V won in every practical aspect. It's not bad on the eye either. The HR-V looks more like a status symbol tbh. The BR-v is good looking and practical.

Glad I made this choice

I'm looking to replace my current vehicle (Renault Duster). It's old and is starting to give me expensive problems. I want a vehicle with decent ground clearance like most SUV's have. Even a cross model may work?

Price: max R400k (second hand with low mileage is ok)
As light as possible on fuel.
Must have an automatic variant.
oi vey, are those "expensive problems" related to all French cars' notorious shitty electronics perhaps?

my two top pics in this scenario:
- Suzuki Vitara (AllGrip preferably) ... very well priced
- Subaru XV (or Crosstrek in the latest generation) ... bit more power than the Suzuki, with better ground clearance and all wheel drive by default

both have automatic variants (CVT actually for the Subaru)
the Vitara is lighter on fuel

also these days I see lots of Haval Jolion and Toyota Corolla Cross, maybe the masses are onto something

that's more of a station wagon than an SUV though, terrible ground clearance

err, that's an Uber XL just like a Toyota Avanza, NOT an SUV at all

I'd have to disagree with you on the station wagon part. Go drive one. Your opinion might change. Alternatively look T the hyundai creta

I did drive one, all through the Addo Elephant park, and believe me I missed the ground clearance of my SUV at home dearly

 Takumi would not believe that you support a Honda over a hachi roku Bunta, WTAF?!?
I was not told this is an option.
No worries, the Hachi's bigger brother is still in the driveway ;)

PS, bought the CRV last night. Man oh man, what a drive, for a 12 year old car!
Literally bought it from a 64y/o man, who's only selling because he's leaving the Country.
Oke was heartbroken to see us drive off.
2.2 Diesel, Auto.

never driven one, but Honda does produce quality cars, no doubt their crossover SUV will do the business

As much as I hate to agree with Narrow, he's right. The B-RV is not an SUV and the clearance is much less than the IX I had. Not a bad car at all, but not an SUV

It has more ground clearance than a Tiguan.

I'm happy either way. Big difference between the old br-v that I had and the new one.
It's considered a cross between mpv and suv but station wagon definitely not.

Good quality buy it will go many more years

Does anyone perhaps have advice on the new Renault Duster 1.5dCi ZEN manual 5-speed? I'm considering buying the 6-speed automatic (EDC) version, but the manual is R40k cheaper so just wondering if it's worth the saving?

Take the automatic instead. It's more expensive, but it's the better choice

Thanks, but may I ask why you say that? It has exactly the same feature spec as the auto and only difference is the engin, i.e. slightly less kw and torque, and then of course a 5-speed manual gearbox compared to the 6-speed auto gearbox. I have no doubt the 6-speed auto will be more convenient and that it would be nice to have the little extra power under the hood. I'm just not convinced yet that those 2 things are worth paying R40k more for, especially if I won't be using the car for heavy duty? Unless of course the car really misses the 6th gear on the open road?

Ultimately it boils down to personal preferences. The auto transmission is naturally smoother during the gear transition than the manual transmission and therefore has marginally better acceleration. On the other hand, the manual transmission gives a positive feel to the drive. Convenience also plays a massive role, especially if you have to drive in traffic quite often. Shifting gears in traffic with a manual becomes tedious and your clutch will work harder. With an automatic, you don't have that.

I get that 40k is steep when the only difference is the gearbox and up until about a year ago, I would've said go for the manual instead. Now convenience plays a big part in my choice when choosing a car. Keep in mind that you're going to use (and pay, obviously) the car for a few years, so if you're happy with the manual, go for it. If you want convenience, the auto is the best option, in my opinion of course.

Thanks, makes sense. I really value your input and feedback and the time taken to reply.
