Suzuki and Toyota sharing some love.

Long term relationship or just a one night shag?

Perhaps there might a few blowjobs in the mix?

Who knows what the future holds with all the cross breeding there is in the international motor industry.

In March 2018, Toyota and Suzuki had signed an agreement to supply cars to each other in India.

Now, according to a media report, Maruti Suzuki's first car to be re-badged as a Toyota, will be the Baleno.

It has been reported that the move has been finalized by the headquarters of both brands, which are located in Japan.

Toyota is likely to make minor changes to the Baleno and these have already been approved. The car is expected to get revised headlamps and tail lamps, a new grille and redesigned interiors.

The two companies have also agreed upon the number of vehicles to be supplied. Suzuki will reportedly supply 20,000 to 25,000 Balenos annually to Toyota.

The re-badged Baleno is likely to be sold through Toyota's retail network in India from the first quarter of the next fiscal.

Other vehicles that are likely to be re-badged in the coming years include the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Toyota Corolla.

Toyota confirms plan to sell Suzuki-built cars in Africa

Toyota and Suzuki have announced an agreement to “begin considering concrete collaboration in new fields”, including Suzuki supplying certain India-built models to Toyota to sell in Africa.

The announcement is the latest in a string of joint announcements that kicked off when the two Japanese automakers signed a memorandum of understanding back in February 2017.

This latest agreement is intended to bring together “Toyota's strength in electrification technologies and Suzuki's strength in technologies for compact vehicles”, sparking growth in new fields, including joint collaboration in production.

Intended areas of collaboration include the “OEM supply of two compact vehicles (in this case, the Ciaz and Ertiga) built on Suzuki platforms to Toyota in India”. In addition, Toyota hopes to “adopt newly developed Suzuki engines for compact vehicles," to be manufactured at Toyota’s facility in Poland.

Perhaps most interesting for our market, however, is the intention for “OEM supply of Suzuki's India-produced vehicles (Baleno, Vitara Brezza, Ciaz and Ertiga) to Toyota, targeting the African market”. Of course, it's not yet clear what the brands have planned for South Africa in particular.

Toyota and Suzuki agree wide-ranging partnership

Suzuki-branded RAV4 and Corolla-based hybrids to launch in Europe – with Corolla-based models to be built in the UK

Toyota and Suzuki have announced a new wide-ranging collaboration, which will involve Toyota producing Suzuki-badged hybrid vehicles based on the RAV4 and Corolla estate for the European market. The deal will include Suzuki vehicles being built at Toyota's Derbyshire plant.

The two Japanese firms signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a partnership in 2017, and have now agreed ‘concrete details’ of the deal. The two firms say the agreement will bring together “Toyota’s strength in electrification technologies and Suzuki’s strength in technologies for compact vehicles”.

The agreement is also designed to help both firms “grow in new fields”, and will include joint collaboration in production and electrified vehicles. Toyota and Suzuki say they will “continue to fairly and freely compete against each other”.

Both firms have given details on a number of specific projects in which they will collaborate, split into three strands.

Toyota will supply its hybrid powertrain system to Suzuki at a global level, and will supply Suzuki with two new electrified vehicles based on the RAV4 and Corolla wagon for the European market.

The Corolla-based vehicle will be built at Toyota's Burnaston plant in Derbyshire alongside the new Corolla, with production starting in late 2020. The hybrid powertrains will be made at the firm's Deeside engine plant. The addition of the new model is not expected to add to the 3200 people employed across the two sites.

As per the latest sales figures, Maruti Suzuki has dispatched a further 2,302 units of the Glanza to Toyota, taking the total number of units dispatched to 2,666 in the last two months. The Glanza has already begun to arrive at Toyota dealerships across the country with dealers in many cities already accepting bookings for the hatchback. Expect deliveries for the hatchback to begin in the weeks following the model’s launch.

Toyota Glanza launched at Rs. 7.22 lakh (India)

Toyota has launched the Glanza hatchback in India. It is available in four variants with prices starting at Rs. 7,21,900 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Toyota Glanza is a rebadged Maruti Baleno and looks identical to it except for some cosmetic changes. It gets a twin-slat chrome grille flanked by LED projector headlights that have integrated LED daytime running lights, while the dual-tone front bumper houses a pair of fog lamps.

At the rear, the Glanza gets a thick chrome strip and wraparound tail lights. The car rides on 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels shod with 195/55 section tyres.

The Glanza has dual-tone interiors with silver trim and a front centre armrest with a storage bin under it. It comes with a touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel.

Other features include reverse camera, keyless entry, engine start/stop button and electrically adjustable and foldable ORVM's among others.

The Toyota Glanza is offered with a choice of two BS-VI compliant petrol engines, which include a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder unit that produces 83 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque @ 4,200 rpm and a 1.2-litre DualJet petrol unit with a lithium-ion battery with an integrated starter generator that puts out 89 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm @ 4,400 rpm.

New Toyota Glanza hatch revealed (yes, it's a rebadged Suzuki)

What you’re looking at here is a Toyota ... and a Suzuki. Yes, Toyota in India has revealed its new Glanza hatchback, which is quite obviously a rebadged Suzuki Baleno.

The unveiling forms one of a number of “joint projects” between the two automakers, stemming from the signing of a memorandum of understanding back in early 2017.

From what we can tell, very little sets the new Toyota Glanza apart from the Baleno on which it is based, with the two hatchbacks sharing exterior dimensions (a length of 3 995 mm, a width of 1 745 mm and a wheelbase of 2 520 mm). Look closely and you'll notice the tweaked grille design and slightly different front bumper (although the Glanza even uses the Baleno's alloy wheels).

While the SA-spec Baleno draws its urge from a naturally aspirated 1,4-litre petrol engine, in India the Glanza (mimicking that market’s Baleno) employs a 1,2-litre unit in two states of tune: 61 kW (in five-speed manual or CVT) and 66 kW (in manual only, but benefiting from a mild-hybrid arrangement). Both versions feature a peak torque output of 113 N.m.

Japanese tie-up: Toyota and Suzuki to enter into capital alliance

Toyota and Suzuki have announced an agreement built around a capital alliance as the two firms look to “establish and promote a long-term partnership”.

The Japanese companies say they are seeking to collaborate in “new fields, including the field of autonomous driving”.

The news is the latest in a string of joint announcements that kicked off when the two Japanese automakers signed a memorandum of understanding back in February 2017.

But this latest agreement will see the automakers acquire shares in each other. So, Toyota plans to acquire 24 000 000 shares of common stock in Suzuki (that’s 4,94 percent of the total number of shares issued by Suzuki as of March 31, 2019, excluding treasury shares) with a total value of ¥96-billion (about R13,9-billion) by underwriting the disposition of treasury shares by way of third-party allotment conducted by Suzuki.

Likewise, Suzuki plans to acquire, through purchase in the market, shares in Toyota equivalent to ¥48-billion (around R6,9-billion). These share acquisitions, say the firms, will be implemented after the companies obtain “approvals from the foreign competition authorities”.
