Suzuki is on a major roll in SA.

Some more good news for new prospective Suzuki buyers:

SUZUKI (TEMPORARILY) EXTENDS WARRANTY TO 200 000 KM!

Suzuki Auto South Africa says it has extended the mechanical warranty on all passenger vehicles sold from July to December 2017 to five years or 200 000 km.

The promotion sees the existing three-year or 100 000 km warranty widened at no extra cost to the buyer.

“Over the past few years, we have worked really hard to further improve our customer service and extend our dealer network to place good Suzuki service within the reach of more South Africans,” said André Venter, divisional head for sales and marketing at Suzuki SA.

“We have also improved our warranty and service plans to be both easy to understand and as comprehensive as possible. The extension to five years or 200 000 km signals the successful completion of the project,” he said.

Suzuki SA says the extended warranty covers “all costs in the case of a mechanical failure, barring failures resulting from abuse, a lack of scheduled maintenance or a vehicle accident”.

“In making sure we offer the most benefit to our customers, we have extended our partnership with the Automobile Association to offer five years of free roadside assistance,” added Venter.

The partnership with the AA includes services such as help with changing a flat tyre and jump-starting a flat battery to “car lock out support”, delivery of emergency fuel and even telephonic directions.

Suzuki extends its new-car warranty - for a while

Suzuki has extended the mechanical warranty on all its new passenger cars to five years and 200 000km.

The longer warranty period - up from Suzuki’s standard three years or 100 000km promise - applies to cars sold from July to December 2017, and is included in the cost of the car.

As sports fan and Suzuki SA divisional head for sales and marketing Andre Venter put it, that means the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and the 2022 Soccer World Cup in Qatar will have come and gone before you need to worry about extending the warranty on your Suzuki.

Venter says he has put time and effort into making the terms of the warranty as straightforward as possible. It will cover all costs in the case of a mechanical failure, he said, barring failures resulting from abuse, a lack of scheduled maintenance or a crash.

He’s also arranged for the AA to extend its three-year roadside assistance programme for Suzuki customers to five years for the duration of the promotion - including help with changing a flat tyre, jump-starting a flat battery, car lock-out support, emergency fuel and even telephonic directions.

Venter admits the six-month promotion is aimed at sweetening the pill of Suzuki SA’s recent one percent across-the-board price increase, but points out that it does have a real long-term benefit for the customer.

SUZUKI HAS QUIETLY PULLED THE SX4 FROM SA … FOR NOW

A quick glance at Suzuki Auto South Africa’s website will reveal that the SX4 has quietly disappeared from the local scene, with the Japanese automaker no longer importing the crossover.

Interestingly, however, Suzuki Auto SA seems eager to keep the door open, telling CARmag.co.za that the decision is “not cast in stone” and that it could change “dependent on spec available”.

Since the Vitara’s local launch late in 2015, the SX4 has been forced to play second fiddle to the newcomer. In fact, in 2016, Suzuki sold 571 examples of the Vitara, while only 141 units of the SX4 were registered over the same period.

The last time an SX4 appeared in a Naamsa sales report was way back in January 2017, when a single unit was registered.

The local SX4 range had comprised five derivatives (three manuals and two automatics), all powered by the Hamamatsu-based automaker’s familiar naturally aspirated 1,6-litre petrol engine, worth 86 kW and 156 N.m. Pricing had ranged from R282 900 to R359 900.

Confusing to temporarily extend a warranty to five years, which is what many other manufacturers already offer. They're just coming up to par.

SA car sales: Suzuki hits new record, major local milestone

Suzuki has breached the 1000-unit mark in August, making it the single biggest sales month for the Japanese brand in South Africa since 2008.

34% rise in sales

The new sales record of 1004 units represents an increase of 34% over its previous figure of 744 units, which it achieved in July 2017. It is the first time that the brand has broken through the 1000–mark.

While this new sales target is a significant milestone for Suzuki, it also heralded another internal record – 50 000 customers.

Andre Venter, divisional head for sales and marketing at Suzuki Auto, says: "Last month, we not only broke our own sales targets to set a new sales record for Suzuki, but we also welcomed our 50 000th South African Suzuki owner to the fold. Selling a total of 50 000 Suzuki vehicles is a significant milestone for a brand that is less than 10 years old and a massive achievement for our dedicated Suzuki dealer network and head office staff."

The Suzuki Swift was Suzuki’s top performer in this busy sales month, with 350 units sold.

It was followed by the Celerio (177 units) and the Ignis (144).

SUZUKI AUTO SA PROMISES ‘PRICING FREEZE’ ON ALL CARS

Suzuki Auto South Africa has released a statement saying that it has placed “a general freeze” on all vehicle prices, adding that it will not participate in the “customary fourth quarter industry price hikes”.

This comes after the local arm of the Japanese automaker announced that it would include an extended five-year or 200 000 km warranty on every passenger vehicle it sold until the end of 2017.

“Whether one looks at the consumer confidence index or at general economic growth, it is clear that consumers are feeling the pinch. With that in mind, we decided to squeeze as much value into our price and warranty offering as possible,” said André Venter, divisional head for sales and marketing at Suzuki Auto SA.

Suzuki claims that many of its competitors have already raised their prices, but insists that it will hold out as it chases a new local sales record.

“It is truly heartening to see our hard work and long-term planning pay dividends in 2017,” said Venter.

“For instance, in August Suzuki welcomed 1 004 customers into the fold – a new record – which we see as the most relevant recognition of our pricing and value strategy.”

SUZUKI SA SMASHES ITS LOCAL SALES RECORD … AGAIN!

Suzuki Auto SA registered a total of 1 045 vehicles in South Africa in November 2017, representing yet another record sales month for the local arm of the Japanese automaker.

November proved to be Suzuki’s best-ever sales month, bettering the 1 004 units it managed back in August. Prior to that, the brand’s top sales performance came in July, when 744 new vehicles were sold.

As is so often the case, the outgoing Swift (which is due to be replaced by the new-generation model in the second quarter of 2018) led the way with 339 sales, with the Celerio (186) next in line. The new Ignis (142) also impressed, while the Ertiga fell just two units short of three figures.

The evergreen Jimny (85) also contributed, as did the Baleno (83), Ciaz (55) and Vitara (46). Meanwhile, the Grand Vitara could muster just seven registrations, while the Super Carry light commercial vehicle added four more.

Suzuki says it has expanded its dealer network with six new “full-service outlets” in 2017, with “several new sites are also planned for 2018”. Furthermore, the local arm of the automaker again emphasised it intention to freeze all price increases for the remainder of this year.

Well done Suzuki, always nice to see an "underdog" doing well.

They could easily break even more records if they bring in the new SX4!!

But maybe they had a good reason to exclude it...

Their reason was that SX4 sales were dismal very low. It was their worst selling vehicle and gained the title of Top 12 South Africa's worst selling vehicles. The last time an SX4 appeared in a Naamsa sales report was way back when a single unit was registered before pulling out. The new SX4 won't make any difference in sales unless they make some huge improvements and attractive pricing.

Suzuki Dominates in India, Grows in SA

We recently travelled to India to drive the new forthcoming Suzuki Swift, but we also visited Maruti Suzuki HQ in New Delhi, experienced a tour of its Manesar Plant and visited 2 local dealerships. Needless to say, Maruti Suzuki has a massive influence in the Indian car market. Take a look at we discovered...

India, a country with a rich history and steeped in tradition, also happens to be the fourth largest car market in the world. It has the second largest population on earth with over 1.3 billion people, which is roughly 24 times larger than South Africa’s population!

Although much of the population is impoverished, the large and growing Indian middle class is driving growth and the Indian car market is booming with over 3.7 million cars sold in the 2016/17 financial year. Maruti Suzuki (a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation) enjoys just over 50% market share in India and over 1.5 million Suzukis are sold each year, a number that continues to grow. It doesn’t matter where you are in India, wherever you look, you are sure to see a Suzuki.

The Suzuki Swift and Swift DZire sedan are hugely popular in India. Nearly 370 000 of them were sold in India in 2016/17.

For context, Hyundai is the second most popular car brand in India with 16.7% market share followed by Mahindra (7.8%), Tata (5.7%), Honda (5.2%), Toyota (4.7%), Renault (4.4%), Ford (3%) and Nissan (1.9%). As a matter of fact, the Suzuki Swift, Swift DZire sedan and Ciaz exceeds Hyundai sales in India which provides further insight into Maruti Suzuki’s dominance in this market.

Car production in India is massive with numerous car brands having plants all across India, which not only supply the Indian market but are exported to other markets too. In fact, about 24% of new cars sold in South Africa are built in India. Maruti Suzuki has 2 312 sales outlets in India with nearly 40 000 sales representatives at dealer level in 1 652 cities.

Maruti Suzuki has a vast dealership network, including NEXA outlets, which provides customers with a premium, technology-focused dealership experience.

To meet local and international demand, Maruti Suzuki has a production capacity of about 1.7 million vehicles per annum across its 3 plants including Gurgaon, Manesar and Gujarat.

We visited Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant, responsible for the production of various Suzuki models including Alto, Celerio, Swift, Swift DZire, Ciaz and Baleno. The plant runs like clockwork and the scale of automation is impressive and mind-blowing at the same time.

Various innovative strategies and quality control measures are employed at the plant to ensure optimum production and high levels of quality. Visiting the Manesar plant was fascinating and eye-opening. It’s interesting to think that the cars we saw being produced there will soon be driving on South African roads...

Suzuki Strength Growing in South Africa

Suzuki won the prestigious 2016/17 Cars.co.za Consumer Awards - powered by WesBank Brand of the Year Award. Will Suzuki win it again this year?

In comparison, Suzuki's influence in South Africa is small but growing steadily. Suzuki's market share improved by 57% in 2017 and it currently holds a 1.6% market share in South Africa. Since 2008, Suzuki has sold over 50 000 units locally and currently has 43 dealerships across South Africa.

The Suzuki Swift is the brand’s best selling car locally and since its launch in 2008, more than 18 200 Swift units have been sold. Globally, the Swift has sold well too with more than 5.8 million units sold.

Suzuki’s growing success in South Africa is reflected in the Cars.co.za Consumer Awards - powered by WesBank where Suzuki has won the prestigious Brand of the Year award and scooped wins in the Budget Car category (Suzuki Celerio 1.0 GL) and the Compact Family Car category (Suzuki Vitara 1.6 GL+) in the 2016/17 iteration of the programme.

For the latest iteration of the #CarsAwards, Suzuki will look to defend its Brand of the Year title. The Suzuki Ignis 1.2 GL is a finalist in the Budget Car category and the Suzuki Vitara 1.6 GLX Auto will do battle in the Compact Family Car category.

The Cars.co.za Consumer Awards - powered by WesBank will be live streamed on our YouTube channel from 19:30 AM on Thursday, 25 January 2017, so tune in!

Also look out for our first drive report of the new Suzuki Swift coming your way in the near future.

Bit late on the SX4 thing, but having been a Suzuki Jimny owner since 2009,we were looking into the SX4 for another family member as we couldnt take them on road trips with our Jimny.

What turned us away from it is was the fact that its supposed to be a crossover, but it had a marie biscuit as a spare wheel.

Imagine shredding a tire in the Tankwa Karoo and you only have a marie as your spare.

But otherwise we have been very happy with our Jimny since the word go and think Suzukis are brilliant.

There's always the Vitara and Grand Vitara available

There's always the Vitara and Grand Vitara available

At that time they only had the Grand Vitara and we just got rid of a Jeep Grand Cherokee due to its body size, engine size and petrol consumption.

Just too big for our needs with 3 people.
Anyway settled for a terios for that family member and happy with it.

Our Suzuki Jimny though we will never swop for anything.

My cousin got a Ignis for her first car. Nice little compact car. The slow auto gearbox irritates the hell out of me, but she doesn't seem to mind. The car is quite feature packed for the price
