Yup, it only assists the vehicle on acceleration, not really giving any more power.

Remember its a Toyota Hybrid system, they make dismal power figures compared to other Brand hybrid systems.

I know Suzuki and Toyota share motors etc on models. But the Grand Vitara Hybrid does not have a motor as such for increasing power. Basically a fancy starter motor that can help just a little bit.

Nothing wrong with proper hydraulic power steering. As good as EPS is in the cars I drive often, I still prefer my car's hydraulic system.

First thing I always do when I get a hire car is stop at the first service station & check all the tyre pressures (including the spare, if provided) - and set them to what's indicated on the tyre inflation sticker on the driver's door B-pillar - they're usually WILDLY out of kilter - either they're as hard as a rock - or as soft as a marshmallow...

That usually dramatically improves the ride & handling characteristics...

Beautiful roads are great. I wont ever buy Goodyear tyred though. R3k a tyre and they whine between 80-100 and then the noise goes away. Seems a design flaw.

My car went into the tyre store for an entire day to check out if my balancing, alignment etc because I had a rim repaired. They even put on a new rim and same. The Tyre whines

Continental or Bridgestone Turanzas is the way to go. Unfortunately when I bought my tyre, there wasnt either in stock.

Clearly you don't have a mother in law that lives with you? I am tone deaf at certain frequencies. Tyre whine means nothing to me

I've had a Hyundai Gi10 as a rental before, that wasn't nearly as bad as the Rio. I'd have expected it to be the other way around.

Yeah problem is the Rio has the 1.2 from the Picanto in the bottom end (which is like the 1.0 in that car) and has a real engine in the 1.4T models.

Correct. Its basically helps a teeny bit with fuel consumption. The Engine runs all the time (except when the vehicle stops)

An update from my side - the wife decided to get the Fronx GL (as GLX MT seems to be non-existent at dealers in this country). She got the two tone orange and black and we got a pretty decent deal and trade in from the local dealer (matching my offer from Weelee). The black roof just loves to show dust, but is still pretty nonetheless. It is a huge upgrade from her Micra Active. Insurance is ludacrisly expensive (R1250). All in all, really nice car so far, considering it's the entry level. I would like to take it on a 100km+ trip to see what it does on the open road. Surprisingly big cabin space!
