I want to start swimming for fitness. Does anyone know good pools around Cape Town that won't cost me a fortune to use?

There's a huge one encompassing the entire coastline. I hear it's free...

The municipality seems to be letting pools go to ruin. Both Sea Point and Newlands are on the verge of closure. I hear they have built a heated pool in Blue Downs.

Uhhhrrr... you'd swim in Blue Downs? Have they done something about the crime in the area then?

Why not join a gym? Many of them have heated indoor pools. Not exactly cheap no, but will help in winter plus you get to work your fitness on all the other equipment.

Yeah, your best bet is the gym.

Also swim in the Atlantic? Ha, ha!

Cape Town's beaches are great for looking at and tanning on but rubbish for anything else.

Too cold to do anything in without a wetsuit and not enough fish to catch any decent fish in.

That's too much money for me. It's like R500 a month no? What do you pay?

Yes I joined a tennis club, but I need something to stay active for when it's cold and raining, so an indoor heated pool would be perfect.

With Discovery you do a once off payment of R500 (I think it has increased to R700) and then you are a full member.
It is worth it. I swim everyday Mo-Su and it is great for fitness.
It is actually the best cardio workout you can get.

No, not that i know of...but even then vitality is only R165 a month.
Give them a call and say you want to join....just don't join Planet Fitness.

I just phoned discovery to join. I think the guy said R116 per month (could have been R160, it sounds the same over the phone). It's costs me a once off R700 and then R60 per month that I have to pay to virgin active. That's not so bad.

See...and now you have access to all the equipment and pool...as long as you pay.
Good deed done for this year...now I can go ahead and be a bastard all year long.
